G'day All And A Question On The Starter Button

Firstly I wanted to say g'day to everyone on the forum. I've been reading it over the last few weeks and have quite enjoyed the banter and information contained.

Just placed an order for a phoon and will have it hopefully in the next few weeks. I'll be honest and say I've never "liked" Fords, and never thought the day would come when I would buy one, but my attitude was changed by the BA XR series, something about them just looked right. So I've been sitting on the fence for the last year or two. Now I'm in the market for a new car, the BF won hands down over the VZ. It was still a little hard to admit that Expensive Daewoo just didnt cut it, and I almost went for the SS. The minister for war and finance had the final say when the quotes came in and the typhoon was the better option on paper. That and the sh*tty auto the holdens are still running. (she who must be obeyed cant change gears) The test drive sold me, and I'm left wondering where the level of comfort and style comes from that just isnt there in the other offerings.

My first question I have is is there an easy way around the starter button? Its the only thing I dont like with the FPV. I know I will get the sh*ts with it. Is it possable to disconnect it or run a stock ignition barrel?

Cheers guys.

It is a simple momentary button, I'm sure it can be re-wired and bypassed

Have you asked if the dealer will do it? If they leave it out at time of manufacture it would be easier.

Really, you just get used to it. I'm in the habit now of getting in the car, emptying my left hand (usually phone, pda and what not) into the cup holder, closing the lid, keys are already in the right hand inserting into the ignition and left hand comes up as the clutch goes in, button gets pushed and presto, she fires to life.

Initially I wasn't sure if I liked it or not but it has kind of grown on me.

Regarding the comfort comment, I don't suppose I can say much in that department really, having come from previous Falcons and all. I can say though that I cannot really fault the Typhoon in any way in the comfort department.

Yeah, well said, I dont think many FPV owners really liked the button initially, however we are now just used to it. I even drove an EF (my old ladie's car) a while back and went to start the damn thing with a button on the LHS. It wasnt till I actually touched the dash and realised there was nothing there I realised I start it normally again. (Well it actually feels abnormal now..).

Comfort in the Phoon is great! Im sure youll be happy with your decision.

Did you drive any Z series clubbies, if so what was your opinion on them. Iv heard the 6L is pretty mean! Compared to the Phoon what did you think.?

I didnt drive any VZ HSV's as they were well out of our price range. I'm getting the car through salary package and the lease company couldnt get a better price than retail from holden, but fleet price on fords. 10kish discount dropped the FPV into the same price bracket as an SS. No brainer realy. The test drive of the typhoon sold me though, there was no turning back after taking it for a spin. Felt loads better thn a VZ SS. The arse end realy sticks in there but isnt a barge to turn.

I had the Vy series SS just before the Phoon, Not sure if your Z series SS you drove had the 6L but the Gen3 I thought as pretty quick for a standard car, and handled great.. till I took the Phoon for a lap! :sleepystuff: Im also using it as business vehicle, and picked mine up (Mk2) last year for the price of a brand new SS back then when the Z just came out. I would have been spewing again at holden's marketing as the 6L wasnt due till mid/late this yr, and now because all engines must be euro3 compliant, they intorduced it earlier. Anyways, not my problem anymore. Phoon goes through more juice though, but absolutely caines the SS (the one I had anyway) in every, yes every aspect! You will enjoy trust me.

PS. Watch your front bar when driving.. everywhere, it scrapes even in the smallest drain if your not super careful. that's without lowering. And the boost is addictive, but that's a gd thing!

Cheers! Send us some pics when you get it!

I felt the same about the starter button and found that they can be easily disabled by the dealer as they are a plug in item.

I would suggest you try it for a few months as it has grown on me as well.

Just remember to tell anyone who is driving it about the button or they will never figure it out.

What options are you getting ?

What colour ?

Good choice in cars, you now have a car with real street cred.

Ordered a merc silver with the only options being the steering wheel and auto. Got told today I would have to wait for it to be built. But have been offered a floor stock 05 plated BF same colour and steering wheel but with the 19" rims for 2k less than quoted. I'm an impatient bugger so I'll be taking the 05.
