I have been doing some research into IPRNSW, and I have a car that I will build to race, been looking at there website but they don't say much about the rules. Does anyone here race in this series, so that I can get a heads up before I start building.

No it's not a XR6T it's an RX7 before anyone asks but you gotta start somewere and they seem to be the cheapest and most succesful car in this class.

Sly,

I have a few mates who race in the over 2lt IP in their GTR's.

I can put you in contact with them if you want, they are a good bunch of guys and the series seems to be very popular.

I was thinking of doing the under 2lt in a corolla as they are cheap to import from japan.

Hq's are the cheapest in NSW!!!

To run anywhere near the front in IP you will need to spend at least $50,000!

Leanne Tanders car is an example of that!

I run Geminis in Qld, as we have our own class. Actually the longest running one make/model class on Australia, something like 25 years!

www.qldgeminiracing.com

Geminis are by far the cheapest category in the country!

I have a few friends who run Subarus in IP, but the turbo cars have restrictors!

Ip is run by Rotary supporters, thus why they are so competitive. They restrict the hell out of anything that remotely looks like giving them a run!

I'd suggest going to an IPRA meeting first & talk with the people at the meeting.

Beware buying the car is the cheapest part!!!

As for rules, contact CAMS, the rules are in the CAMS manual. I can send you copy of last years rules, but I don't have this years as my licence isn't up for renewal until May!

I used to race in IPRANSW in a series 1 RX7. I won the NSW series in 2002.

Now I race an XR6 Turbo in Australian Production Cars.

If you want to be competitive in Improved Production then an RX7 is the only way to go.

The good thing about Improved Production is these cars are the fastest sedans for the dollar of any motorsport category in the contry, and you can have fun and run mid field quite cheaply. HOWEVER To run at the front of the field you do need the sort of money that Russ "thebrunks" is talking about.

You are far better buying an established car than building one. Generally speaking buying an established car is 1/3rd the price of that to build.

I sold my ex-championship RX7 for $27K, I had spent at least 3 times that amount building and developing it.

Driving a well sort out 900kg, 330+ HP RX7 with an ultra close dog box is a real buzz.

You can find a copy of the rules on the South Australian site http://www.iprasa.mx.com.au/rules.htm

The best way to get into it - is to go to a meeting and introduce yourself - even voulanteer to help some one out for a few race meetings.

Thanks for the replies, for me half the fun is building the car. As with all racing it's expensive at the front, I'll be happy just to be in it.

Cool,

I pitted next to Dave Skillender in his Late model camira this weekend, bloody hell does it have some acceleration!!!

Definately has the best acceleration of any of the Ip cars in Qld!

Just has problems stopping & cornering compared to the lighter cars!
