hey guys,

bought a 2003 xr6t second hand recently, 40000km's.

hand the usual issues, brake shudder, handbrake doesn't work so I took it in for warranty.

handbrake was adjusted cost me $45, only took 3 clicks to hold the car. discs machined and the new pad was fitted to permenant fix the brakes.

since then I've done about 500km the handbrake now takes about 6-7 clicks to work and at slow speeds I can hear a scraping sound on the discs. slowing down from 100 to say 70km/h I can feel shudder yet again.

is it normal for the handbrake to screw up that quickly ?

if I take it back to ford are they going to charge me another $45 ?

I was under the impression the new pads fixed the braking problems ?

anything ican do to fix it without forking out for PBR brakes ?

cheers for the help

All sounds normal to me mate... they just keep skimming them or replacing them til they aren't covered any more. The only way you will get rid of the shudder and brake fade is buying premium discs or even a full kit. Well worth the $.

My handbrake has been fixed and works fine... has done for a while now. It still makes the noise though (swoosh swoosh)

7 clicks on the hand brake is ok.

I have not adjusted our hand brake for 110,000 km's it still just holds but I do not get the scrapping noise either.

If they put ford pads in it again it will always start to shudder do yourself a favour and get some non ford pads fitted I use qfm pads.

Have fitted 3 sets to ours and no shudder.

Agree with Goldie, I fitted QFM pads at 23,000 km as I had shudder. Skimmed the disc, fitted the pad and I am now at 102,000 km with no sign of shudder at all. I am pretty light on brakes as I do a lot of highway work (80,000 km and the QFM pads are only 30% worn). However, the fact is, it only takes a couple of heavy brake applications on the standard pads to induce brake shudder.

I kept having brake shudder issues as well. Everytime I took it in they just kept machining them down, and the brake shudder kept comming back.

I had the "upgraded" Ford pads fitted didn't really help apart from making the brakes squeal like a b*$ch...

I just gave up in the end, and had a set of DBA4000 slotted rotors put on the fronts and Benedix Ultimates for the pads. Money well spent I reckon

Back brakes are standard, and I don't think I'll change them until the rotors need changing.

When I did mine, I was more after fixing my brake problems than improving/uprgrading my braking, but after having them on the car for a while, there is a good difference.

The brakes seem to grip earlier and they have a more even feel to them. I've found myself pulling up a bit harder than I was expecting to when stopping at the lights... Once again well worth the cash

My car has only just hit 500kms and the handbrake doesnt hold the car unless its pointing at the roof. The fleet of falcons at work seem to be all the same as well.

I've never had any handbrake problems.

Since I got new rotors and the revised pads under warranty brake shudder hasn't returned.
