Hey guys, I have a funny story for yous! As well as my experience with an STI a few days ago..

I was cruisin the Phoon at the bay (SA) and as I turned back onto the main road exiting the usually busy street (Jetty Rd.), I accelerated moderately (3/4) then short shifted at like under 3000rpm to second, showed some by-standers the flutter of the waste gate :msm: now as you know the turbs need revs to really spool up so there wasnt really much in it. No wheel spin (thank god), no 2nd gear chirp- must have been a good road! and actual speed was no more than 40km/hr. Speed limit is 50 on this road. I was then confronted with a copper who ran out in front of me and ordered me to pull over. "Now there was no need for that was there" were his exact words, to which a laughingly replied - I have done nothing wrong. Give me your licence he told me and luckily I had it on me, after going around the car, checking tyres, rego, plates, window tint, he then asked if it was a turbo to which I replied yes. Okay have a nice day, he then said and returned my licence and turned his back. So the *beep* not only pulled me over for no reason (I did absolutely nothing wrong), he tried defecting me for something on the car (which is completely stock apart from legal tint.. the FPV front bar is kinda low I guess :pooh: ...) I know the IC attracts attention but it aint that much of a Hoon car. Even though the name of the vehicle may suggest different typHOON! Anyways, no fine after all that..

Now, just thought whilst im posting a new topic (gets kinds boring around here), I would include my experience with a run with an STI. It looked pretty much brand new 05-06?, young bloke driving. Appeared to have no noticeable mods such as exhaust, BOV etc. We were driving on a main rd here in Adelaide when he sped up and was right along side me. I dropped it back into 3rd (ready to go back to 2nd as was at 60km/hr) to give it a rolling run, but he didnt want a bar of that now did he! :pooh: We then later on pulled up at the lights together, gave each other a nod of approval of our choice of vehicles and prepared for a run! Ahh.. I love this stuff! Anyways, he started stallin it up, so I knew he meant business, and I did the same. Up to just under 2K. We both then took off as the lights went green, I got a really good start, fed in the throttle as to not get too much wheel spin (despite some still) and fed in to full throttle, however this thing next to me just bloody slingshotted from a standstill like there was no tomorrow! The Phoon was already 2-3 cars behind and we had just began! I then changed to second at around 5,3-5,4 (again some slight spin- I do get excited sometimes, it may have been a half throttle shift..) and appeared to be slightly making up some room and went up to only about 80+Ks, He stopped at around that speed and as did I, to not look like a spastic going flat out past him when I had already lost. Yep got drilled to 80km by around 2 carlenghts. The Phoon may have had more of a chance in the rolling start me thinks! Anyways, those things just bloody grip like theres no tomorrow, without any fuss of wheel spin (apart from dumping the clutch to get a mean take off!). So moral of the story.. I need an edit! and some decent tyres..

Hope yous enjoyed!

yeah, those things launch like nothing else. What you need to do is take off as though nothing is really going on and then nail it. A standing still take off is no challenge to the sti. However, few Subi drivers do this kind of launch as it is very hard on the drive line.

My mate does this all the time and he is on clutch number 3 and gearbox number 2. Next time this happens when you hear one build revs like they do just take off at 3/4 throttle and make out you weren't sure it was on. At the next set of lights his clutch will be fryed and unlikely to repeat another 7000rpm dump without slip. I know its cheating but hey, so is AWD :spoton:

Bog stock MY06 Sti runs about 13.4s 1/4, so it should be quicker off the mark than the F6 manual. The MY06 Sti also has an adjustable centre diff to give a bit more power to the rear wheels (and more fun). It launches pretty good in stock form with a bit of a chirp from the rear wheels.

Monaro show, that's why there were plenty of coppers out!

What amazed me in the STI, is that we only just started (like not even 10m into the run) and it already had 2-3 carlengths on me! Oh well, at least its by a 57K STI and not a standard rex, I paid 8K less than that for the Phoon.

So tell me more about this SA cruise, there are usually plenty of nobs out on these cruised and coppers come straight away and spoil the fun!

Cheers~!
