I have one good thing to say about the controls for the XR, you take the layout for granted sometimes.  They are layed out simply and easily to find things in a hurry and conveniently.  Like the cruise controls on the steering wheel are heaps better than having it on a fiddly stalk.  Radio controls on the steering wheel are heaps better than on a late model Mercedes Benz (which requires a few button pushes on the steering just to move to the next pre-saved radio channel!).

I agree overall, but what about the TC and foggies cleverly hidden behind the wheel so that you can't see them?

 Yes, there is some good ones on here, but let me add, :gooff:

THE ABSOLUTE CRAP FUEL FILLER DOOR ON UTES!

This is the worst piece of engineering on the entire BA-BF range!

-They put a straight door on a curved body shape

-They used an ugly finger pull door release with no lock instead of an internal in car opening flap like a sedan

-There is no security for fuel, Non locking fuel cap, which should be the least they could do considering they f$%ked up with the filler door!

-There is no shroud or anything around the filler nozzle when theres such a gaping big opening behind the filler cap door. I can just about check the opposite side tyre wear the hole is that friggen big!

The general design of the fuel tank in utes is :pooh: !

-No inspection port for removal of fuel pump system without hoisting it up just about taking the tank out!

-The moulded neck on the tank, combined with the stupidly located charcoal canister make pulling out the tank a mission in itself.

Other stupid things with the design include-

-Airbox and battery should have been swapped from factory and saved a fortune on pipes and cross over plenum design.

-Lower intake mesh non existant (I thought they would have at least amended this with the BF, but no!).

-The discustingly poxy overflow tank that looks like its been filled with dioreah after its been cooked for 12 months from sitting near the exhaust manifold.

-The butt ugly Torneu fixing buttons- Why couldnt us torneu users get a nice one like the Holdens have had for years?

-Rear tail gate seal on the utes, forever coming off whenever the tailgate is dropped!

Anyway, enough for my rant! :gooff:

Guys after reading all this I kinda get the impression that you are not entirely happy with your cars. If any potential buyers were to read this I don't think they would be too impressed. But on a more postive note.

Why doesn't everyone mention some good points about their cars??

I would like to read some positives as I am considering buying one of these weapons/lemons

Don't get us wrong jonom - these cars are weapons and you should buy one... but just like every mass produced car, there are little things that could be done better when you are parting with about 45 large. You would pay less for a jap car and get better quality....

jonom, This thread was not started with the intention of bagging out the cars.. rather to point out some of the things that were minor but still bugged us..

I love my car... most people here do... otherwise we wouldnt be in this forum talking and reading non-stop about the Xr6' T...

There is too many positive things to say about this car..

If we didnt love the cars, why would we own them ?

If people are thinking about buying one, then they should see if they can get a ride in one, or better yet test drive one... people shouldnt make decisions based on a few rants on a forum ...

I wasnt having a go at the car itself, just some lapses in design that should be sorted out better.

Believe me, when Im stomping on the throttle at 15psi I couldnt give a F A R K about the fuel cap!!! Either could anyone else, as they wouldnt see it! :spoton:

But its better that I have a whinge about some minor things that could have been approached better than say "its got sloppy pistons and uses oil!" like some of the Commy forums!

You will enjoy it mate, dont worry!

Every car forum is filled with threads about how great and near perfection the forums 'car of choice' is. When I was shopping around for a car, the things which I most wanted to read about were the problems people were having. I think this thread is great. There are many, many other places on this site where you can read about all the good reasons to buy an xr6t.
