Hey all, I imagine there is a fair bit of 1/4 mile experience on this forum, I'd like to know if any preparation of the car (and driver) is required for the car to be considered safe to the scruitineering guys.

Specifically I'm talking about Calder Park Vic.

I got this from the Calder website

  Quote
Virtually anyone can compete in drag racing at Calder Park Raceway. Driver's/rider's are required to have a valid drivers license or an ANDRA (Australian National Drag Racing Association) Competition Licence, if required. Vehicles must meet basic roadworthy and safety criteria, etc for street meets, a three-point lap sash seat belt (as a minimum), an approved safety helmet, long sleeves and pants, shoes and socks (NO SHORTS, SINGLETS, T-SHIRTS OR THONGS). Refer to the following AHRC Safety/Licence Requirements for sedans and derivatives.

and this

  Quote

Tyres Tyres of same construction required front and rear. (radial/bias) Tyres of same construction required front and rear. (radial/bias) Tyres of same construction required front and rear. (radial/bias)

A little misleading and sometimes they repeat the same text.....

When you roll up at Calder with a stock XR6T what do they require you to do (besides wear a helmet and long sleeves that aren't soaked in petrol?)

These two points I was particularly unsure about. (if they are either already there or need to be fitted to car)

To race at Calder in a stock T all you'll need is a helmet, long pants/sleeves and proper shoes. The car will pass. Make sure you have no loose objects.

Geea. :spoton:

No, pretty much rock up, and have a run. They'll kick the tyres, check your brake pedal and make sure you have a helmet and long sleeves.

Pay your $ and off you go.

Ahh too easy.

All the talk of tail shaft straps was starting to get me worried.

I had to weld a strap onto a little Datto I sometimes circuit race for scruitineering, am glad I don't have to do the same for the T.

Thanks for the quick response.

And dont have the open tinnie sitting in your centre console :bouncey:

The rules change when you start driving around the circuit, I know barbagallo requires a chain on the sump plug :bouncey:

Since When???

I have got that track day in two weeks and the only advice that I was given was to change the brake fluid etc, pump tyres up to 40psi...nothing about welding a chain to my sump plug.

Are you pulling my chain??? :bouncey:

Haha no serious, a few years ago they brought in a rule that all track cars must fit a chain to their sump plug.

There may be a waiver for street cars... maybe it has something to do with ride height? :bouncey:

I know my mates dad had to fit one to his Stag

Yeah that chain on the sump plug is a great cost saving idea....if it does fall out and u lose all you engine oil and seize your motor and phuck it....it saves you the cost of a new sump plug on the rebuild..... :bouncey: .......they cost like 3 buck you know....

i could understand lockwiring the sumpplug but welding chain to it is lost on me.... :bouncey:

Geez I hope the Melbourne circuits don't have the same rule...it's been over a year since I raced at PI or Sandown, so had never heard of this rule.

Maybe they saw the stupid BF idea to hold your fuel cap onto the neck with a bit of plastic string and were inspired to do the same with the sump plug....

I'm looking forward to giving the stock BF Manual a 1/4 time after Easter. I'm hoping to get a low 14 as this seems to be the general expectation....but given my lack of 1/4 mile practice maybe a 15 would be good enough on my first outing.
