Hey guys, I had around 35lites of Optimax sitting in plastic containers for around 2 and a half weeks and when I put in in the car I thought I could hear a slight amount of pinging under acceleration, could this be because the fuel had lost some of its potentcy sitting in containers. I put some octane booster in the tank and it apppears this has stopped the pinging. Any advice would be appreciated.

Mate, plastic containers are not the best for storing fuel at all - I am not surprised at your experience.

Even for motocross it is fresh fuel every week. You can tell even after a week of sitting in the plastic containers it goes a little stale.

Fresh is defintely best!

generally it is about a week for fuel before it starts going bad, doesnt matter if it is in plastic metal or a fuel tank.

Optimax has a short shelf life.

A guy that sets up ciruit cars told me that he could get better

power then the supplied fuel was fresh , as staright from the plant, then straight off oth truck

I found this during some web surfing the other week

Just got the following quote, from Something about fuels

"We have heard rumours of the Shell Optimax having only 22 days shelf-life compared to the BP Ultimate 43 day shelf-life, meaning by the time it's manufactured to the time it gets transported to the bowsers, then into your tank and used up, it's shelf-life is almost up, meaning you are using fuel which is almost off ... and yes, just in case you didn't know, fuel definitely does go off!!"

In either case....you pull into a country servo and pick up some premium that has been sitting there a few weeks - you might not be getting what you payed for.
