Coming home on the freeway I noticed the "D" flashing and suddenly realised I had no gears. The speedo didn't work either and the Odometer was ticking over but not accurately (the 50km trip home is now only 14km according to the odometer......not good near FBT year end when I have to make X number of KMs by Friday night....)

I pulled over, left the engine running and consulted the manual which told me a flashing "D" meant the car was in limp mode - I proceeded to drive the remaining 30-40kms home in limp mode (3rd gear) with my hazard lights on.

I pulled into my garage turned off. Told my wife then turned on again.

Now the flashing was gone.....went for a drive and everything was normal again - speedo worked - odometer recorded accurately - gears worked in "D", SSS performance and sports manual all worked well - gave it a good drive to make sure. No probs and nothing out of teh ordinary.

I'm perplexed.

The car is only on 11,500km and has been driven very sensibly - never thrashed and only spun the wheels a couple of time - very short burst. Definitely not thrashed in any way.

Anybody else had this sort of thing happen?

Do I puit it down to just a glitch in the computer?

I'm confused.

I'll report it to the dealer tomorrow. Just in case

But it seems to be fine now.

Any comments?

Thanks Jeff :stirthepot: Helpful as always, next you will be selling the poor chap a Uni - chimp to overcome the issue  Seriously though , if you are a Mk 1 sounds like an overboost fault code , particularly if you are chipped.

Edit

Note you are NA running LPG, so hi ho hi ho off to the dealer you go

Maybe overhaeated the box or somehow triggered the slip sensor?

At least the code is logged and the dealer should tell you.

If the speedo is not working right that would be the reason for limp home mode.

The speedo in the ba's is picked up though the abs unit and it's sensors so there my be a problem in that system.

Have the dealer check it out.

The PCM will have it logged as a fault code so just get it in to the dealer and get them to look. It will tell them exactly where the problem is :spoton:

Probably the rear ABS sensor circuit has an intermittent fault. Dealer will replace the faulty sensor and all will be OK.

Took it to the dealer today

The logged cause was a fault in the vehicle speed sensor - presumably part of the ABS? and also the reason the speedo stopped working.

Funnily enough it has been fine since and tested today was fine also.

They said if it does it again they'll change the sensor.

They couldn't give any other explanation other than "a glitch"
