What I do have is a bad belt squeal whenever it is cold (for about 15 to 20 minutes). Have had the dealer look at it several times now, when they said they cleaned and tightened the belt. Squeal came back within a thousand of so.

Was in on Monday demanding a new belt as the squeal keeps returning, and they have told me that its the alternator bearings and they have ordered in a new alternator. We'll see how it goes next week....

Bet they put dry lube on it Trumpy as that is exactly the same thing what they tried on me.Quiet for a week then back within 100km.Get them to ring the ford technical line on the modification they are doing.I think it is only a new modification as this was my 3rd time back.

I have been back 3 or 4 times for the belt now, I think they have just been cleaning and lubing it previously because it keeps coming back. At least this time they are actually trying to find the source of the problem I guess. Between this, the brakes and the squeaky brake pedal that comes back every couple of thousand, I'm on a first name basis.....

Believe it or not!

I certainly didn't!

Just had my car in for its 3K service (at a Ford dealer in Melb. northern suburbs) & was asked if I had any concerns? Mention to them (wished I hadn't now) that I noticed belt shavings on top idler pulley. Picked up the car & was told everthing is ok, as wait for this, the BELT doesn't have any grooves in it from the factory, as a new car is running in the pulleys make their own grooves in the new belt hence the shavings!!!!!! Was also told new belts from the service dept. also have no grooves!!!

Maybe our resident for Ford spare parts man (or anybody else for that matter) can can confirm or deny this???

Just when you think youv'e heard it all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was told these shavings are "within spec" so as they are in my opinion only a visual thing, I said I wan't them removed at every service under warranty, so far they have. I believe the AU ran the same belt set up so would be interesting to hear from owners if they had the same problem.

Had the rubber shavings problem and the odd screaming from under the bonnett. Then the screaming became persistent. The little "idler wheel" on the front of the head was locking up under higher revs, and the serpentine belt was dragging over the pulley. Replaced at about 9000km and no problems since (with that particular problem anyway!)

After writing this post I have since found out first hand that that the belts do indeed HAVE grooves! Surprise, surprise!!!

Therefore I will be in no uncertain terms be seeing & advising the person/cretin (bull@#$% artist) that he will be ill advised to treat me or any other unsuspecting customer with this level of contempt again!!!

I had this as well, ticking when cold.

At my last warranty session they lubricated all the pulleys (? don't know what their called), and its back two days later.
