Does not look like something to worry over!Maybe yours is excessive?
ASNU Member 261 Member For: 21y 11m 13d Location: Brooklyn Posted 12/08/03 10:50 PM Share Posted 12/08/03 10:50 PM My car was at the dealers testerday getting the dreaded water pump oring fixed and the belt replaced as it was starting to get noisy first thing in the morning and they carried out a modification to eliminate the black belt shavings falling on to the tensioner. The problem they said was on the pully on top of the tensioner the outer edges to guide the belt has a very rough surfuce cutting into the belt. All they did was just have the motor running and put some very fine wet and dry sandpaper on the outer edge to take off the high spots thus eliminating the wear.Started first thing this morning and no more noise but will have to wait a week or so to see if anymore belt is been left behind.I am sure I dont have to highlight to anyone attempting this at home to be very careful with your hands. Trumpy What's happening? Have had the dealer look at it several times now, when they said they cleaned and tightened the belt. Squeal came back within a thousand of so.Was in on Monday demanding a new belt as the squeal keeps returning, and they have told me that its the alternator bearings and they have ordered in a new alternator. We'll see how it goes next week....

It has been fine since, with about 5k on the clock.

They did replace the belt as I dont think think it is exceptable in this day and age that this should happen plus it was starting to make a mess on my alternater plus tensioner. They said it had no harmfull effects on the belt but I am not quite sure of that.Rubber shavings everywhere cannot mean good things for the belt.
