I'm onto my 3rd and ive got 65,000 under my belt.

Every time they changed it, the noise went away. This time I had a squeak in the morning when the engine is cold so ford changed it again but this time its still there.

Under close inspection it sounds like the power steering pump/pulley.

I'll get them to look at it next service.

Cheers

Adrian

mine sounds like a squeek, squeek, squeek, squeek, squeek .. that gets quieter after about a minute then disappears. Definitely sounds like the idler pulley area on mine

This thing happened to my old Fairmont.

Put a Long Screw Driver onto the bolt holding the pulley on and put your ear on the end of it.

One of them should make a grumbling sound more than the other and that is the one that needs replacing.

No I am not kidding either.

This hapened to me a while ago.... Heard a sqeeky noise when the car was cold, went away when the car warmed up so I didnt take much notice of it.

Untill I lost power steering. Thought the power steering pump shat itslef. The pully was fine. Drove for a bit, got it towed the next morning to my mechanic, and the short drive I did was enough to shave the pulley off the power steering pump. Battery light came on too. The belt was just hanging in the bay... $75 Later I got a new pulley from Fraud.

I have a thread on here somewhere... just search power steering pump pulley or something, I have pics on it too... Could have been much worse...

The thing that pisses me off now is that the noise is back :(

Who does like metal pulley's and how much??

Cheers Mike
