I had mine replaced at 15,000 Km, I was getting a whistling noise when starting cold. They changed the adjuster, idler pullies and belt under warranty. Apparantly the pullies were burred with was damaging the belt.

Yeah they said that they checked the pulley's etc!

But I'll get my mech to check it all coz I know they have pretty :w00t2: mechanics working on the cars, if your not lucky enough to get an apprentice! :spoton:

Good luck, Just keep kicking up a stink about it and will fix it. It took 2 Times leaving the car at the dealer overnight before they fixed mine.

these belts are good but they do every thing and in doing so they are stressed. then you have the geea/pretzel factor where abuse(rapid acceleration) is constant thus greatly reducing its life there are two things to check.

1st is obvious wear and tear, fraying, rips etc.

2nd is the wear / streach indicator have not looked at 1 in ages I was going to say but I only just done geea's a couple of weeks ago anyway if I remember corectly there are three lines on the tensioner bracket and and 1 on the tensioner arm the single line should be between the first 2 lines of the three clock wise ill check later and see how good my memory is?

Unf@ckinbelivable

I had the ute serviced yesterday, and my mechanic found the idler bearing f@cked!

This being the obvious reason for the belt wearing!

So I'll be headin down to ford and demanding some cash back, as It should have been covered under warranty.

But the incompetent fools couldn't find a cause!

It's not belt squeal is it?

I know the Late model camira boys like it because they reckon their cars sound like they are supercharged... sad I know but that's what they say...

Umm pulley, if your talking about the main pulley, the harmonic balancer, mine started destroying the rubber, but they said it was fine at 2 seperate services, then when I said I was driving it to Qld they airbag a replacement up here.

But I didnt notice any noises from it, just the rubber oozing out....Darwin heat for ya.

Edit: Unless the tensioner bearing is dry, that could make it whistle, or the obvious as above belt slip.
