I got rear ended a while ago and my utes rear bar needed replacing, called Ford Spares... if you can call it that and they discontinued the rear bar with the reverse light ( my ute is the MK1) so I had to get the one without a reverse light.

this week I went to get my clutch upgraded and my mechanic noticed the centre bearing on my tailshaft was shot, so he called ford spares and they said the part was discontinued.. WTF??

the car is a 2003 model barely 3 years old and ford are discontinuing parts???

I thought they had to provide spare parts for at least 7 years or so from the date of manufacture..

now what am I supposed to do about a centre bearing?

Ring someone else... that is what I would be doing.

The rear bar, you can still run the reverse light, the EPC states that a hole must be cut in order to run the reverse light (any panelbeater should be able to handle that easily).

And I seriously doubt the centre brg is ONR (obsolete not replaced) , id be guessing its either superseded to a BF unit (quite common) or ORC (obsolete, replaced by other components that will do the job).

Hope this helps.

Isn't the rear bar with the reverse light the same as an AU?

Big AL

Yes, and if you have an AU and you need a new rear bar you will get one that doesn't have the cutout for the reverse light.

IMO Ford should supply the tail light assemblies (with reverse lights incorporated) with the "new" style bumper bar if they don't supply the correct fitting original replacement part. My point is "why should a customer have the extra expense of getting a panel shop to cut the bar to suit?" Ford are doing it to save money but don't give a fook that it is costing the customer extra.

Correct me if I am wrong (& I am sure someone will...) but don't the Standards state that you HAVE to have a reversing light??

If FMC are "discontinuing" the original bar, and the supplied replacement is not up to spec, then you could be facing a defect sticker from a bored copper...

Just a thought....

As of about 2004 the reverse lights are incorporated into the tail light assemblies.

Yes you do have to have a reverse light and Ford expect you to cut the bar to accommodate the light.
