Can you please help me out me with a description on your thoughts on the

following tyres. The phoon comes standard with Dunlop SP 9000s which are an

okay all round tyre. I need something that grips better in the dry, yet

still lasts hopefully over 20,000+km. I am after your thoughts and a rough

price on 245/40/18 Bridgstone Potenza S03s, some Pirelli PZero Rosso

tyres, and the Michelin Pilot sports. Your thoughts and if possible a

comparison with the dunlops would be perfect, otherwise just your thoughts

on the tyres mentioned. Additionally, if there are others that may well be

suited to my needs, mention them also. My email is georgemopar@hotmail.com if you wanna get in direct contact.

Thanks for your time guys!

Hi Bangm001,

I cant remember which issue of Motor magazine last year, there was a comparison of the 245/40/18 tyres using the F6 as the test mule.

Overall, the Michelin Pilot sports won, but different tyres were better than others in different conditions.

If I find the mag, I'll tell you which issue it was.

Regards.

It is worth noting that the SP9000 control tyres in that review had done some kms already (about 10000 from memory, where as the others were all new, so not necessarily a fair comparo...

As for choice, I have just put on the Yokohama Advan Sport V103's on my car (18's). Very very happy. Much quieter and more comfortable than the SP9000's with better grip in dry - I think similar wet grip although have not done much driving in the wet yet. Just be careful if you put these on - they take a 100kms or so to 'come good'. Price $419/tyre Treadwear rating is 180 relative to the 280 of the SP9000 so likely to get lower kms, although seem to be holding up very well after a bit over 2000kms, but really a bit early to tell just yet how long they will last. I am optimistic that I will get 20000kms (got 30k each set of SP9000's).

Expect to pay about $620 or maybe a little under for the PS2 michelin's (I beleive I could have gotten a bit more off). Nearly went that way - but figured I would give the cheaper Yoko's a go first and see how they perform. Treadwear rating on the PS2's is 220.

The advice I got was not to go the Bridgestones - never had them so can't comment from personal experience. Treadwear rating of the S03's is 140 from memory.

Good luck! :spoton:

Ben.

Thanks for replies people.

The reason I am considering the SO3s is because my Y series1 SS had them, they only lasted just over 20K however, grip was exceptional, and they didnt squeal like the dunlops doing skids or pushing into/around corners (private rds. obviously..) I know its only an Gen3 & only had 235kw, compared to an extra 35kw and 85nm in the Phoon, but I thought they were really gd.

Keep opinions comin guys!

Thanks again.

In my opinion....Nankang NSII are the best bang for buck tyre that I have found. They are grippy, hard wearing, reasonably quiet and cheap (approx $170 for 18").

Dont know whether you want to spend big bucks on tyres or not, I have always found its just not worth paying $400 a corner when there are other options out there.

Also depends on what sort of driving you do.
