I suspect you have been sold some BS.

without looking too deeply at the physics lets look at what we know people are getting,

A stock T will do the 1/4 in approx 14sec with a terminal speed of high 90's (doesn't really matter matter for this rough comparison), with lets say 180rwkw.

At 90mph you are travelling at about 40m/sec or 7-8 XR6T car lengths

A modded T with lets say 280rwkw will do low 12's - lets say 12.5secs for the 1/4 (auto - although you are close Arthur!).

For the sake of this very rough number exercise lets say that if the stock car averages the 90mph over the last 1.5 seconds of it's run (the amount it is behind the modded car), it will be about 60m behind when the modded car crosses the line or about 10 - 12 car lengths.

Difference in power is 100rwkw - which using the 37rwkw/length would be a little under 3 car lengths. This is clearly orders of magnitude out... (for the T - might be true for something like a top fueller that is heavier and longer... ):kissmy:

As others have pointed out there are lots and lots of other variables such as where in the rev range - across how much of the range is the extra power made etc, so I would suggest that this as a measure of 1/4 time is useless for the T.

once I read the title, I knew this was bullsh!t.. so many variables that play different roles, its impossible to make one assumption.

these could include weight of cars, manual/auto, driver skills, good/bad takeoff etc etc..

anyway as gogo showed above, there is no way to get an exact equasion or way to prove your "experts" theory.

Interesting but I dont really think so. consider 2 cars both running low 9 second passes and a cars length wouldnt be much in it as both cars are travelling well ova 140mph, yet you could have two 14 second cars with a cars length difference, this would surely equate to a different time difference. so I kinda dont think 37rwkw is going to determine whether someone is a cars length behind.

This problem can be solved mathematically although the variables would make the mind boggle....

Add the constant human unknown variable and it makes it even more inconsistant.

I think it would be a fair mathematical equation to say the following...

1 car length may or may not equal 37rwkw's, plus or minus 37 rwkw's....

Give or take a bit...

If both machines were identical weight, body type, tyres etc, etc, etc, (not to mention colour - cause red ones go faster) - then if you are still interested and can wait a while I will do the calcs.

I have been there and seen it, it is about correct,

my car XR6T ute auto 265.4rwkws 12.7@109mph

other car XR6T sedan auto 308rwkws 12.2 115mph

distance was 1 car length across the line

it is also worth noting that a 30rwkw gain is worth approx 1/2 a second down the 1/4 mile

my car stock 14.0sec, 195rwkws

2nd cai and edit 13.3sec, 235rwkws

injectors, high flow cat and custom tune 12.7sec, 265.4rwkws

as mentioned above other XR6T 12.2sec, 308rwkws

in an average street car you get one tenth of a sec, with 10hp (7.4kws)

so you need 100 hp to run 1 sec faster (with no other changes) (74kws)

at 160 klph, a car of 5metres(xr6) travels 9 car lenghs in one sec.

so a car 37kws extra will be 4.5 car lengths ahead
