I heard the Unichip is simple to pull out and put back in for servicing?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

If Ford reflach the ECU , you will need a retune :crybaby:

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I thought the Unichip will just intercept so it does not matter what the Factory ECU does???

Removing the plug in loom is a different story.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Got the Plug in loom sitting next to me just looks like 3 snap in connetors??? Will soon find out how hard it is to pull out!!

TS,

It will take about 30-45min to remove the unichip and it is a PIA to do as you can break the ECU plug clips if you are not careful.

Ford Service will spot the plug in loom a mile away.

As for the custom Unichip vs generic Edit tunes, I would think the main difference is where the generic tunes were from as each tuner can put their own generic tunes in the box.

If it was from someone with a good reputation like Nizpro/CAPA I would prefer the Edit with generic.

Either way you got a good deal, I sold my Unichip and plugin loom on Ebay 4 months ago for $650.

If the values in the signal being intercepted are different to what they were when the piggyback was tuned you may have an issue.

I think a good custom tune, whether it be done via a piggyback or edit, will always be better than a generic tune.

Spiro rekons the Unichip Custom tune is better then the standard CAPA built in tune.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Spiro is indeed correct.

As long as you dont want to change auto shift points/pressures, remove engine torque reduction, never get full 100% throttle, never properly solve the overboost problem, and not really care about how your engine is running, plus never visit the drag strip and expect a good time...then yes he is totally correct :innocent:

Cant imagine him saying such silly things thesedays now he has seen the light and can tune these cars properly via the Edit :innocent:

My T had a 2nd CAI and unichip only fitted by APS and is went from 191rwkw to 221rwkw.

I would expect you will have 220-230rwkw.

The main downside of the unichip is the dealer will spot it and add you to the warranty alert list.  This will essentially void your driveline warranty.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I went from 186rwkw to 221rwkws +aps cai

I'll bet that you'll see much better results with the edit.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Im sure you could. But he picked up the chip for $400.. Custom tune of a couple hundred and he will almost net the same result as the edit, for about $500 cheaper!

Good on him for modding in the first place!

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

How do figure $500 cheaper?

Cappa flash with genric tune will match the Custom APS tune.

Rob

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

They might match it, but they arent necessarily safe or 'complete'

We will see the results this afternoon, I will mention these things to him and see what he comes back with he is pretty honest and probably didn't want to insult me for bringing to him a 2nd hand unichip, instead of buying the CAPA flash he sells.
