Hell I got a taste of a killer VY SS today, it's time I up the ante I think.

He whooped me off the line and he stayed a car length in front of me up to 3rd gear when I backed off. Should have stalled my launch but just couldn't be stuffed, dunno if his machine had been tweaked, looked slightly different on the front end and launched a hell of a lot quicker than I thought he would.

Anyway a Typhoon is out of the question, so it's edit time me thinks.

Looking closely at one of either a Nizpro, HPF or Herrod custom tune.

The Nizpro 315kW Stage 1 Cobra looks like a top package but costs $3550, they also offer just the Edit & Custom tune for $1995.

Or HPF have the 320kW Venom Stage 1 for $1650 and lastly Herrods have their 238rwkW Stealth edit for $950 and $165 per hour for their custom tune.

Anyone here think one is better than the other? Looks as if Herrod are the only one advertising theirs works on the BF and should I be spending the extra $$$ and getting the Nizpro with the upgraded injectors & valve springs to ensure I don't damage any internals?

You can't go wrong with either of HPF or Nizpro, I obviously have a leaning towards HPF. Say away from Herrods. :spoton:

Either of the 2 Craig mentioned should see you right.

I wouldn't take those advertised kw figures to seriously.

Look at rwkw figures.

Naturally you'll get more power from having injectors and valve springs but that adds to the cost hence the Nizpro kit costing more.

Hey Geo...

I'm booked in for my edit only at Nizpro on 31st of March as per my sig, can't wait...

My best mate has a VU SS M6 ute with full exhaust (no mufflers and a US GTO K&N power intake) with LS1 edit only though no 3.9's yet, he's getting them on Tuesday... and currently he chops me no problem up to 3rd gear and it's about a car length as you described above, haven't been any faster on the street, before his edit we were door to door at any speed, be it from the lights or on a roll on... any gear... was always interesting as to who was gonna back off first... :3gears:

He's gonna make a mess of me with 3.9's...

If you have the money I would go Inj/valve springs and edit... the only reason I am not is because of financial contraints...

Hope this helps... I know I'd be getting injectors and valve springs if I could afford it...

I'm hearing ya but it's an extra $1500 bucks on top for injectors & valve springs, that's my only concern. How much quicker would it really be (ball park figure) with these in addition to the tune & edit?

I'll be waiting for your feedback once you've had the cust tune & edit and can't wait to hear when you start flippin the situation on the VU.

So will the stock internals handle the extra kW without a problem with just an edit & tune?

If you take mine as an example ( edit, valve springs, injectors ) it could mean you would be in mid 12 territory.

An edit tune alone would give around 240-250rwkw's with a high 12 low 13 1/4. I think a better air filter and a 2nd CAI should be done at the same time, both cheap mods.

After this would be injectors and something to help the exhaust valves. I'd still go the 968's but there are many good options around. An upgrade to the fuel pump could be wise too. One option with the exhaust is valve springs. An alternative would be to get the centre muffler replaced with either straight through pipes of hot dogs and to have the cat fixed. This could be either by gutting it or getting a larger better flowing cat depending on your budget. The rest of the stock exhaust is good for over 300rwkw's. With these mods you should see 280-300rwkw's and mid to high 11's to low 12's. At this stage you should look at a trans cooler aswell.

Hope this helps.

Hey Lukey? Done anything in the fuel pump department?

Just as a guide Geo as well, my best mate has run a 14 flat in his ute WITHOUT LS1 edit, all other mods were done by the previous owner... so as per mentioned...

What I can tell you is that deek (a member of this site... hey Grandpa!!)) has a Nizpro injectors/valve springs and edit tuned (Cobra stage 1) car and it makes about 275rwkw (standard 4spd auto as well) and it still retains the factory intake and exhaust (and driveability under 3000 RPM), I've been for a run in his car and it is an ANIMAL compared to my stocker that ran up 213rwkw on Nizpro's dyno the same day deek's car ran 269rwkw (and he thought that was low... I thought mine was high... go figure)... the difference is truely amazing I am serious you won't believe me until you go for a ride in one... I compare it to ripping up Armani suits as deek's car does in the dry in a straight line running Pirelli P Zero Rosso's ($600+ a tyre) in 265/35/19 and my car can't even break traction in 1st (manual) in a straight line with 225/35/20 Wanli's (about $300 a tyre depending on where you go)... chinese crap... as I said before if you can afford the extra I say do it, as with the edit only you will run with the edit only VY's (VT series 2, VX, VZ...etc) but with injectors/valve springs and edit you will be showing them a clean set of heals even if they have 3.9's... add Higgens Head and Cam to the LS1's and it's a different story again, but that is why we have Mr Turbo and Geea in the house... to show those cat's their ass...

If you do the Injectors/Valve springs and edit the same thread as described above will be played out on www.ls1.com.au or www.streetcommodores.com.au forums... asking how do I go as quick as the XRT that just chopped me... it's a never ending game... we just have the upper hand... :msm:

But I had a Holden (355ci stroker auto HSV Senator) and I am now backing the XRT pound for pound, dollar for dollar, head and cam (5.5K from Nathan Higgins not incl exhaust and intake mods or tuning) or stroker (name your own price up to 20K, though it goes hard) incl exhaust and intake (budget at least 5K on an LS1 for extractors and twin 2 1/2" stainless with MAFLESS tune) is gonna cost you over 10K in total at least with the suspension, gears ($1200 for 3.9's fitted)) and probably even more to run competitive times (1/4 miles times, high 12's maybe low 11's)... get the injectors and valve springs with edit (3.5K if you go the most expensive option and that is Nizpro which is where I am going, cheaper if you go elsewhere) and as stated here you will run mid 12's for 1/3 the dollars invested compared... if not for you for me... because I can't afford it :tease::spoton::3gears: and I want it all, but not right now... :fool: my home loan has said I'm not allowed... :spit:

Nice... book it now and get it...

Jack :fool:
