Well another tyre thread but after an hour of searching ive decided on a new topic.

My rear dunlop SP3000's are cactus and im after new tyres. K-mart have the SP3000 for $220 each which is cheap?? I'm thinking of getting these to keep with the factory specs.

However to throw a spanner in the works I have 4 brand new 245x45x17 Michelin Pilot sport (not the SP2) lying around. These obviously have a larger diameter but not sure of the difference. What do people think about putting these michelins on?? Also want to sell the original rims/dunlops within the next yr which is why I want to get 2 more dunlops so I have a full set.

So should I go the michelins despite the increase rolling diameter.......and can I get the dunlops for less than 220 in Perth??

Cheers all

Thanks cro your certainly the tyre guru around here. I'm not too concerned about dry grip because I find the SP3000's more than adequate for my driving style.

Better wet weather traction would be nice though.

PS1's are awesome tyres, they grip almost as well as the PS2's.

They have a way different tread pattern, and apparently their wet grip was their biggest strength.

Because of the aggresive tread pattern they were a bit noisy, but they wouldn't be anywhere near as noisy as the dunlops.

From memory the PS1's are one of the best tyres available (I.e. in the top 10).

But yeah as I said, I got NFI about the size. Might be barking up the wrong tree here.

I'd fit the Pilot Sports - don't waste any more money on SP3000s. They are shocking tyres - I didn't realise that my XR6 had wind noise until I replaced them!

Only thing I'd be careful of is the condition of the Michelins - how old are they? Have they been stored somewhere cool and dark?

Cheers, the michelins came off a 2002 mustang and were replaced with 19's. They are not std tyres for the mustang and I assume they are 2 years old? They are also kept outside. I'm worried they will be stolen too

I was thinking that the rubber might start becoming hard etc and loose their goodness!!!
