A lot of the cost of insurance premium is based on location. Sydney must be perceived a fairly high risk area. Different suburbs will be different prices as well.

I recently looked into insuring with Shannons but they were almost double the premium that NRMA were charging me. I went back to see them just in case there was some sort of mistake, but no, that was the price. There are some benefits of Shannons that you don't get with NRMA like choice of repairer (this is available from NRMA but at extra cost) and pretty much unlimited modifications.

agreed... you are being bent over, and copping it prison style... not even soaped up..

My premium is $1900, and that's for the T with all mods I got... however I am still only 23, turning 24 this year.. so next year I'm hoping it'll drop significantly. My premium dropped about $300 this year, but its still insured for 43k (2004mk1)... works for me!

I'd shop around for sure, 3k for insurance on an NA, imagine the pineapple they would have shoved up ya :spoton: if you had a T!

I was 23 when my policy was last renewed and from memory it's around $550 through RACV. Suprisingly it only went up like $60 when I traded from the N/A XR6 to the T.

get a quote from www.justcarinsurance.com.au as stated above. They insure a 22 yr old with xr6t with exhaust, intercooler and remapped computer for $835 (rating one) which I thought was a bargain given my xt sedan was about $600 with allianz (similar quote from just car for the xt).

$835??? I'm being ripped a new :spoton: then!! I'm with just cars, 65% no claim bonus, and I'm being charged $1900.. 835 cant be right... that's cheap as!

maybe I need to get on the phone and give them a call, ask them why there is such a variation in price, considering age, mods, etc etc :gooff:

I think I might demand $1000 back!! or else looks like I'll put that generous 43k to use when I run my car into the lake :spoton:

From: Launceston, TAS - that's gotta be helping you though!

I'm in Sydney & the problem is that I live in a suburb that shares a post code with some beach-front suburbs that are prone to idiots doing stupid things in their cars & it's not far from Brighton le Sands (that should give Sydney-siders an idea). As for crime around here, it's almost non-existent. Our neighbour doesn't even lock his VT (idiot in my opinion) that's parked in his driveway, it's just because of the post code.

I'll definitely shop around - I know I could get a much better premium from GIO in NSW, but they won't insure me because (get this) I have a "performance car". A STOCK-STANDARD N/A!! Can I insure a Fairmont with the same donk & worth more dollars? Absolutely. It's bloody ridiculous. Yet a mate of mine has a VY S with 18's, SS seats, lowered, CAI, cat-back exhaust AND he lost his license for 12 months a couple of years ago. Can he get insurance with GIO? Sure, why not? It just gives me the :spoton:.

So far:

AAMI won't insure me (age)

Just Car Insurance won't give me an online quote (age)

Suncorp won't insure me (age)

Why the BA XR6 N/A has such a bounty on it compared to a VY S is beyond me.

I'm in canberra mate... could almost be considered as part of TAS to some people :spoton:

So I cant see why mine would have to be 1900..

As for your car, ring just car insurance. I'm sure it'll be a lot less then 3 grand.

I was with nrma originally, and premium was 1700, but then I lowered the car and as a consequence lost my cover :spoton: so I had to go with just cars, although the expensive premium, im allowed to do whatever mods as long as I tell them, so I suppose that's alright... still might ring them and see if I can get a cheaper price!

:spoton: oh and to add to that... my girlfriends brother just bought a 2001 VU SS ute.. insured for 26k, and through just cars he got quoted $2000, and nrma wants $360 per month.. because he doesnt have the 2000k saved yet, he is going with nrma till he saves the 2k then he'll switch to just cars.

So I cant see your car being much more then 2k, it should be less actually.. when considering ones a V8, and ones a 6.. who the hell knows where they pull their figures from... definetly not out of my :spoton: ass, as the pineapple is still lodged firmly up there from my $1900 reaming. :gooff:
