I have personal knowledge of just one XR6T to be done there - for an Xede tune.

The car had been running consistent low 12s with 270 something at the rears in a very hot climate on a reputably slow track.

After the Sydney tune, which saw a dyno graph over 300 at the rears, the car was taken straight to WSID but could only manage mid 12s. And to cap it off the MPH was down as well. Go figure.

I did see this in the Autospeed newletter.. but from what it said, you have to drill a hole into the PCM casing to gain access to whatever is required...

CAPA Flash tuner thanks.... nice and neat, and no holes in my PCM casing! (Not that I'm saying SAS is bad or anything...)

I wonder why he acceses the emc through the case and not using the obdII connector....do you reckon it would give more scope for tuning or just get around buying licensed software.....?

i can here the threads starting...."I have a SAS tune on my car and x component has broken can ford tell ive had it tuned...." um yeah the hole in the ecm might give it away..... :spoton:

ps not having a go at the guy or his tuning abilities.....

EMC, ECM which one is it...

PCM maybe?

Surely a hole doesn't need to be drilled. :spoton:

If so then the OBDII port plug is defineatly a better option.

Quote for autospeed.com.au

"In the world of Ford XR6 Turbo modification there’s a fairly limited number of options when it comes to tweaking the engine management system. You can either go for an add-on interceptor/piggyback computer or you can reprogram the factory ECU using a Flash Tuner module.

But there is another approach – one that, until now, we had no idea existed. You see, there’s one man in the whole of Australia who can reprogram the Ford ECU directly via laptop. This man is David Alexander of Silverwater Automotive Services (SAS).

Reprogramming the Factory ECU

David Alexander (who has expensive experience reprogramming Delco, Kefico, Siemens and various other management systems) got stuck into ‘cracking’ the latest Ford ECU after purchasing an XR6T ute exclusively for R&D purposes.

Using a custom programming platform, David says he can access every part of the factory program. Of course, not all parameters need adjustment in a typical power-up application but it’s handy to have the flexibility – nothing remains that you wish could be adjusted.

We must point out that reprogramming the factory ECU has substantial advantages over an interceptor or piggyback system - the Ford ECU has a lot of internal logic that simply cannot be imitated by modifying inputs and outputs. The nearest rival is the Flash Tuner module (which is currently being sold under various names). Flash Tuner reprograms the ECU via the car’s OBDII port while David Alexander’s approach requires putting a hole in the ECU case for direct laptop access.

With his laptop plugged into the Ford ECU, David can alter the onboard volumetric efficiency calculations, set the target air-fuel ratio, alter MAP sensor and injector calibration (which makes injector swaps relatively easy), change open-loop switchover and alter the complex torque control strategy (which is largely intended for protection"

that just what i read....

Dave Alexander is a very astute tuner and if you go past his workshop he is never short of work....the amount of race/drag cars he works on is a testament to his ability :spoton:

SAS have worked on my car and the professionalism is 1st class...would highly recomend them to anyone :spoton:
