Hey guys,

I have done a quick search, but I am slightly pressed for time... the question I have, and I was wondering if other peoples T do the same is this;

After driving, regardless of how hard, when I turn the car off and let it sit for a few minutes and then hop back in (say 5 mins or so, some times more), the temp gauge is often over half way, and on some occasions 3/4 towards the hot end.

I understand that these cars build up a lot of heat, but is this sort of behaviour normal?? I only ask because on my other two run around cars the temp gauge doesnt budge above half way, whether I've turned it off or not. I know that they wouldnt generate the same heat as the T, but should it still be that hot under the bonnet?? Do other peoples cars do this??

Also, when it does get this hot, I usually drive relatively slowly till I can get a bit of speed up and let the flowing air do its thing... it does go back to normal pretty quickly, even if I dont drive off... so the cooling system obviously works!

Just a question out of interest I guess..

cheers in advance,

James.

In all cars it is normal for the gauge to rise after being switched off. The heat built up in the block, turbo etc etc all trys to dissipate through the water - and as the hottest water rises - it meets with the top of the engine where the temp sender unit is. You should notice pretty quickly that the temperature drops - and dissipates quickly after driving off.

If you race a car that is near its limit in cooling capacity - they will often overflow water after being turned off.

Regardless of how hard I drive it

When switched of temp rises to about halfway

It has never gone over half

I hope this helps

Cheers

It is normal, sometimes it will go over 1/2 but willr return to normal after the motor is run for a minute or two

I fanged the T around last Friday night when it was warm for about 2 hours straight and engine temp rose to about 3/4 but on my quieter trip home it cooled. You could have an instrument problem else as everyones mentioned above, it's pretty normal.

It also depends on what run around cars you own. My previous ride was a Prelude and often it was driven really hard. The engine temp never rose so I figured if the engine light comes on, I may have problems.

The engine serves only as an indication. If your a driver who understands your car then you're gonna know pretty quickly if there's something not running right ;)

My two cents worth.. \m/ :spoton:

it`s normal to go half way never seen it go further though.bare in mind that people that are serious about performance never trust the factory gauges as they are generally inferior.

Alot of people who have turbo type cars also run aftermarket water gauges which are alot more accurate but only really important if you give your car a hard time.

To be safe just check you have enough coolant in the bottle as I noticed after 18 months I was down half a litre not much and due for coolant flush anyway.

And me.But sometimes after the car has been turned off for about 5 mins when I turn it back on the electric fan comes on as soon as I turn the key on
