Hi -

Just wanted to start by saying great site/forum

I'm after some opinions / advise

I can't seem to decide between the BA XR6T and the BA XR8 and was hoping I could get some first hand answers to some of the questions I've got about the two.

I have had a few quick turbo cars over the years. All of them provided me with more headaches than pleasure.

What I wanted to know was - If you get an XR6T - do an edit and proper tune on it. How does this affect its reliability as a daily driven car that does around half an hour in peak hour traffic to and from work.

I have thought about leaving it stock and pretending that I am content with the power. As any turbo owner will vouch - this mentality won't last long.

This is the only thing making me lean towards the XR8. It doesn't quite have the power I'm looking for - it would just be a compromise between decent power and minimal headaches.

Any opinions appreciated

Cheers

P.S - Hope I posted in the right section

Get the T

Get the Edit

You will seriously wonder why you even considered anything else.

No major problems for me whatsoever related to it being a turbo car.

A properly tuned XR6T will behave better than a stock car. Traffic won't bother it at all.

:spoton: to the forum mate.

Hard decision you have there. There are actually quite a few threads on this topic if you can get the search function to work for you.

Most of the guys here are naturally going to lean towards the Turbo and that shouldn't be any surprise. However there are quite a few V8 "converts" here as well so you will get some spirited debate going.

If you do a "sensible" edit tune you should achieve close to 250rwkw without compromising driveability in any way.

Anyhow, now to sit back with an ale and wait for the show ... :spoton:

Exactly what Luke said.

XR8 sounds good and has a bonnet bulge. Unfortunatley, and I don't like saying it, but the XR8 has nothing else going for it..........compared to a XR6T.

If you have modded in the past....GET THE T

The T is fine as a daily driver, either modded or standard. There are pleanty of people here who run over 300rwkw and drive them every day.

These cars respond well to mods and punnishment.

Get a 6sp auto T and you will be in heaven.

The only 3 things the XR8 has over the T is the bulge, the v8 sound and the poor fuel economy.

Thanks for the speedy replies gents.

I definately am leaning towards the T - just really need to hear first hand how reliable they are when tweaked a little.

I do around 500 k's a week - most of that time its pretty much cruising.

What I really wanted to know without beating round the bush -

When you guys tramp it - is it with confidence? What I mean to say is - are you worried something might let go or does it feel healthy all day every day?

Cheers

Once again GREAT site

The biggest consern with something letting go is the rear tyres.

if you are doing 500km per week an auto T is the best choice as you can get much better economy with a T, even slightly better with edit

Get the Turbo, and Edit it, simple.

I was doing around 800-1000km/week with not 1 drama. (except the rear wheels would occasional let go).

The only weak point if modding the T is the T5 or T56 Manuals/Clutch dont really like too much more than stock power.

Auto is better suited for cheap thrills.

Either way, the car can take the punishment of up to around 270rwkw pretty well.

Stock with Edit will give you approx. 240-250rwkw, plenty quick enough to destroy most cars, and the XR8.
