Hi all,

I'll be in the market for a new car shortly and am curious to hear from people who have been down the path before and decided on the XR6T. I currently own a 4.0L XLS AU Ute and love it although if I had my time again I'd have bought the V8 or XR8.

I have owned an EF and EL XR6 and purchased those because the equivalent XR8 did not perform as well as the XR6. So my question is .. Why the XR6T and not the XR8 or GT ? Is it pricing, availability, performance or something else ??

Thanks in advance.

Rob

The main reason i bought it was the fact ive always wanted a Turbo. Also couldnt see the cost justification in spending the extra money for an XR8 when the power and performance was their in the XR6T. Im really happy with my purchase. Its a dream to drive.

In regards to not purchasing a GT. I would say definently boiled down to cost.

Well....

A GT will probably cost around $10k more than an XR6T when optioned up to similar spec levels. The GT will have a performance edge, but how significant this is only Ford knows at the moment. The GT will cost more to insure, and if my experience with our TS50 is any guide, l would be concerned about high depreciation on a GT. Out TS50 was an awesome car, really the nicest Ford made IMHO. We got many comments from people, and after owning it for 2 years l still love it, but that doesnt mean everyone wants to own one come time to sell. An XR6 turbo or not is more mainstream and tends to hold its value better. Just ask the guys who bought a TS50 for $75K in 2000, and who now would struggle to get $40k.

Running costs will obviously be higher on the GT.

l like the idea of a hot 6 over an 8, for me that is the deciding reason. If your inclined to want to modify your car then the turbo is has probably a lot more untapped potential at lesser cost.

It comes down to do you want a 6 or V8, and does 10K extra for the privelege make it worthwhile to YOU.

It's not just the TE's that die with resale, it seems to afflict any non-exotic brand sports car over $50K. I paid $60K for my MY02 STi 11 months ago, and would struggle to get $45K for it now. That's the reason why I'm not getting an XR6T now, I can't afford to get out of what I have now !

Cheers,

Paul.

The second hand market is a complex one. If you buy a high performance $45K car and it depeciates at worst case scenario 50% over three years then you have a car that you can sell for $22,500 with high performance - smack bang in the price range of the majority of used car prices which people can afford if they're looking for a second hand car.

Do that with a $75,000 car and you're asking people to pay $37,500 for a second hand three year old car. Most people in this price range are more likely to buy something that's new, or if they're going to buy something second hand they'll probably try for something that has some European cred tacked onto it.

I can't say that I'd ever purchase a high performance second hand car for $37,500 when the XR6T and a host of other high performance cars are available brand new for a few thousand dollars more. For a start, I doubt my wife would ever let me! :D

Mysterious post deleting, so I will cast my 2.2c again!

The XR8 is my choice for one reason alone - the noise! Just wait till you hear it :D

*Edit* No mystery deleting - I posted it in the other thread!

So on the topic of *THIS* thread, I'd take the turbo over the GT, as the GT is out of my price range. The turbo pricing is very competitive!

I bought a XR6T because I do alot of driving for work and I think that I would be going through sh*t loads of fuel in a GT or a XR8 but if I could I would like a gt-p, because as far as I know it has all the luxury's of a ghia but with super performance. the only thing I dont like in the gt is the huge wing. I like more subtle looks
