Is that:1. they are having heaps of trouble with the diffs BECAUSE they are hand built.or2. they are having heaps of trouble with the diffs so they are NOW being hand built (to try and fix that).PS Glad your shunt is gone. Its really a gamble the old diff replacement saga, unless you have it done yourself external to Ford. It went away after this.I drove straight to my Ford dealer and after a quick look stated that a new diff from Dana would be in stock by Tuesday next week for installation.I will let you all know how the new one goes. I must say there is not really a noticible clunk any more... dunno what they have changed but it seems a simple rebuild might work too. cqae Member 229 Member For: 21y 5m 24d Posted 27/02/06 02:15 AM Share Posted 27/02/06 02:15 AM I was told by my dealer that they get replace with new ones when under a certain amount of km, & get rebuilt if done over a certain amount of km. The rebuilt option was the way to go, cos they are done properly, the new ones are built to a cost.......one that is obvioulsy not high enough. I want to get mine sorted out-have a whine at 80-100kmh but dont wanna risk getting a worse one! Tee Member 29 Member For: 19y 2m 7d Posted 27/02/06 02:49 AM Share Posted 27/02/06 02:49 AM My XR6T does the whine between 80km/h and 100km/h (only 15 months old), so dealer agreed to replace the LSD under warranty - just waiting for it to arrive, hopefully clears up the whine and shunt when it goes in Apart from that it's generally a smooth and comfortable ride.If Ford ever get their drive line issues sorted out they will have a winner, until then I don't know how much longer they can afford to hand out new diffs like candy because that appears to be the current solution, haha. markxr6t Member 476 Member For: 20y 6m Location: Perth WA Posted 27/02/06 03:17 AM Share Posted 27/02/06 03:17 AM Dealers seem very keen to replace diffs. Mine was OK - but they changed it anyway, along with an axle. Clunk went away, but returned within 10000ks.
