Heads up for everyone, I noticed that the paint had started to come off in a few places on my crossover pipe. I pulled the bugger off while I was chasing a boost leak (TB hose turned out to be the culprit, had a split in it).

With it sitting on the bench, I hit it with the compressor to get some dust off it, and some big chunks of the black wrinkle paint came off too.

The alarming part is that it seems to be painted on the inside, and the paint inside seems to be just as crap. Really would not want any of this sh*t finding its way into your motor.

I think I'll be dropping mine in the cold tank and painting it again with a pressure pack...

Is this a problem on all XR6T's, I think I read a thread about this a while ago, and it was something that Ford was replacing under warranty? (mine is out of warranty)...

I have heard of this happening to a few other people too. I didnt know about the paint on the inside too.. are you sure?? It could be devastating if chunks came off it and got drawn into the engine

If you manage to re-spray it get some progress pics and show us how you do it, I'm interested to see how it turns out.

High temp paint required yeh?

I tired to get mine replaced under waranty through Mcinerny Ford in WA and Kristian is usually the man when it comes to warranty issues and he told me it would be a struggle and he was right. Ford wouldnt cover it because although its a apperance issuse they dont warrant it because the item is part of the engine and not visible when the car is normally in use.

i aslo cleaned all the paint out of the inside of mine because i was concerned about the paint entering the engine.

Little tiny brass wire brush and a wire buff on a die grinder. there wasnt a whole lot of paint and it was already abit flaky(a bit like the owner) so i cam off quite easily......as for polished crome.... my 2c

Is that a stock item polished? If it is, that is a damn fine job.

Too much bling for my liking however, as you say DILLIGAF

Yep...all the crap scraped off to the casting...copper plated...chrome dipped and polished.

The rest of the pipework is mandrel bent stainless.

Strange how Ford work.....

I just had mine replaced under Ford new car warranty....... :spoton: some win, most lose.

A bit of consistency would be nice! :spoton:
