Considering A Bf Typhoon

Ok after driving one today they really arent any different to an xr6 turbo at all  think I might skip that idea

Hi Adam, if it is a new car you want ,then a typoon is hard to go past,

but I think you should go for a run in the six speed auto,

but I would recomend puting a manual in your car, and change a few things on it, like a typhoon kit. maybe customise the inside a bit.

you have a stronger motor, you won't have warrenty with 350rwks anyway with the typhoon,

and the typhoons are the same car with mods, they are nice, but they are not worlds apart.

you could always detune your car, and run the first street trim 10,

I've put up a thread earlier and I am very keen on a Phoon and I keep hearing that the auto is the way to go.

Can I get an idea of who likes to drive their auto fast in a straight line and who actually likes driving around corners, braking, dropping from 4th to 2nd through a round-a-bout etc etc. I'm not being a smart arse. I am being dead serious.

Throughout this forum I see 0-100 times and standing quarters. Is there anyone who actually drives around a track? I am being serious here. Is an auto better for this type of driving. And don't get me wrong. I might only take my car to the track once a year but it is the concept of driving with a manual gearbox that gets my motor running. Not blasting down a drag strip.

I had no intention of even test driving an auto but I will and I will let you know what I think but my intention is never to blast as fast as I can go in a straight line. It is braking and gearing back and accelerating out of corners that I am interested in.

I love Manuals, but realised their shortcommings in the T. A manual in a V8, AWD turbo or Semi Trailer is great, but the T (or F6) just seems to love the Auto.

With the ZF you can change gears, I have never been down the 1/4 on a track, but have been circuit racing for 18years. I think the Auto will go fine for any trackdays so long as you are not doing a enduro event. With the Big Brembo's you do not need to worry about brake fade and you can still put the auto in SS mode and have a fun time.

Now I have been doing some drifting, I am keen to see how the F6 goes around a drift track, as I know I will have an advantage over manuals by being able to shift mid drift without loosing my line or upsetting the car.

XRTWPN I strongly suggest you try a Auto F6 before you make up your mind as they are an AWSOME combination, with all the pros of and auto AND manual in one box.

The manual isn't as easy to drive as the auto, nor will it normally be as quick down the quarter (gear change/boost loss) as it's brother.

Having said that, I don't regret getting the standard cog-swapper at all. Not a bit. Yes the auto is seemless, smooth, and with it, the boost stays on through the gears - a worthy choice. But now that I've practised the manual as much as I have, and can change into any gear before the chimes stop and still have some boost left, it ain't all that slow.

The only thing about the manual, is that as the driver, you have to work a lot harder to get the same result. Nothing new there.

Whatever the preference, both have been down the quarter in just over 13, stock. Good enough for me :hiwelcome:

Now if my bloody g-tech would just turn up...

I've got a manual, and find using the 'box / clutch a rewarding part of the whole driving thing..

After owning autos and tiptronics previously, I'd sworn never to go near a slush box again. Having said that, I've read so much good stuff here about the auto, it seems times may have changed, and I'd have given one a try had they been around at the time...

Anyone in Perth feel like swapping their auto for my manual for a 'comparison' one evening? :rolleyes:

Hey Adam

I know you've already said you've gone off the idea of a typhoon but I tell you what after our cruise through the Gold Coast Hinterland last weekend I'm so glad I've got the 6 speed auto. I was so busy changing gears through the twisties I was glad to just put it in drive and cruise whenever the opportunity arose.

In my opinion if you are dead set on a manual you may as well buy a MK11 6 Speed over the typhoon because there's very little to differentiate the two. However if you get the opportunity to drive the BF 6 speed auto even in a T you'll notice a big improvement in drivability over the old 4 speed auto, it's just not in the same league.

So do yourself a favour and test drive a 6 speed auto Typhoon over some nice tight twistie bits and you'll never want to drive anything else. I don't how else to emphasize it. It's like having a manual gearbox without the hassle of having to use the clutch all the time, the shift times would have to be twice as fast as the old 4 speed auto.

Just ask any of the guys from our cruise last weekend how fast my Typhoon was through the mountains, the manual guys didn't have a hope of getting away from me, (that's how I managed to get so many stone chips, I was catching the car in front too quickly).

Anyway enough rambling just go and drive one okay.

PS I'm really looking forward to the FPV drive day to see what it's really capable of doing.

PPS I only paid $59,000 for my '05 plate Typhoon which isn't a big jump up from the XR6T with similar options at $52,000. To me they are the bargain of the year and with full factory warranty. That's critical when it's a company car and my daily driver.

The side airbags are standard as is the dual zone climae control.

There is also the FPV gauge cluster and gauge pod

I think if you can streatch the $'s it is a worth purchase :sofa:

I would agree .... worth every cent more you pay over an xr6T.

....F6 also had data dots - big plus for anti theft... and insurance $$$$

I think we are all forgetting that Adam has an XR6T already - much faster than any standard XR or FPV, has all the goodies - so no standard car is going to impress him that much.

He is going to lose heaps of money on the sale of the T, as we all will regardless of the model we have.

I dont think Adam is considering a new T, I would expect he would keep his one in that case, or buy a F6 or something else altogether.
