Im considering getting a new BF typhoon 6 speed manual

Im not going to hot it up to the level of my car just a good 350rwkw or something for everyday

Just wanted to know peoples opinions now I dont want a ford vs Expensive Daewoo crap just people opinions on whether they think the typhoon is worth the 70k on the road or whether its just an xr6 turbo with a different body kit and just not worth it at all

please no wars

just thought I'd let you know if you didn't already, you can pick up an ls2 for 49k driveaway (that's for a brand new one).

In that case go a 6sp Mk II Phoon :pooh:

You get what you want, better value (ie cheaper) and IMHO looks 100x better than the BF phoon!! :gooff:

So many people have said that the phoon is better... I am yet to see any actual description of 'how' it is better. (I'm trying to make the same choice, so this would be very helpful!)

Any chance that you could elaborate?

cheers

All the Phoon is - is an XR6T with:

- Stronger con rods

- Bigger intercooler

- Second Cold Air Intake

- Triple plate clutch

- More boost allowed by Computer (270kw instead of 240kw).

- Oil Cooler

- Different bodykit (not better - just different)

- Bigger brakes

- Bigger wheels

- Different trim (better than standard - maybe not as good as Custom Pack)

- Different badges

and... the above is done by Ford/FPV instead of buying a car and changing it. This gives the benefit of exclusivity and a factory warranty.

As you can see on this site, many people can make more power than 270kw reasonably easily from an XR6T- but often dont have stronger rods to protect the motor, and will usually have to replace the clutch (for manuals).

The Ford parts are probably not worth the extra 15 - 20k extra - but, if you want an improved factory standard car, or a better platform to start modding from and have the money to spend - then maybe it is worth the extra.

They seem to be selling well..... draw your own conclusions.

Is a Ferrari worth all that extra money? It is called the law of diminishing returns.

I think there is a key word in your post cobrav8.... "Warranty"

That alone is a good reason to go the Phoon over the T. It is a matter of opinion about the body kit, I personally do think it looks better... and if this wasnt the case then there would be no point marketing it.

It's the same thing if you were a V8 person... would you go an XR8 or a GT? It's the looks and the status, not just performance.

Well, its not my money.... but I would love to see you put a 6 speed manual in your current car and do a quarter mile run in it!! It would be very interesting to see the difference between the auto and manual, considering its the same driver etc! Would make for an excellent experiment, could also be interesting for the people choosing between manual and auto!

I love my manual, just it didnt lose so much boost between changes!

Either way, what you decide I know it'll be a :msm: car!

Good luck with whatever you do! :msm:

I wondered about the boost loss - and wondered what happens if you keep your foot on the throttle. So... driving along at 2000rpm - I left the foot on the accelertor - and engaged the clutch - revs rise - bosst drops. So - is that the fact that vacuum is lost due to loss of load - or that the ecu drops boost to protect driveline?

Boost is dropped due to loss of load... the wastegate will still be controlled to attempt to keep pressure but it will only mean the turbo is spinning faster. That is why there is no huge advantage in flat shifting, it's the point at which the clutch engages the driveline (vs RPM) that determines whether you have boost or not.

If you shift close to the redline you have the best chance of having positive pressure when you select the next gear. I think the 6sp would have a much better chance of this. Once again though it would depend on your tune.

I agree - warranty is worth lots on a new car.

If money want an object I am sure we would all buy an F6 over an XR6T, or a GTP (forget the GT) over an XR8, or a GTP twin Turbo over an XT for that matter.

However- most people do not justify the extra, or can not stretch to the extra. I myself purchased my XR6T new - and paid more than I wanted to - it is just my car to go to work - and tow my car which is faster than most Xrs and FPVs.
