Hiya guys,

I thought I'd add some maps for your benefit and the benefit of the armchair cruisers interstate. I've also included the most current suggested route again.

Suggested Route - Melbourne Beach to Park to Bush Cruise v1.4

Date: Sunday 19 March 2006

NOTE: Comms Game traffic may make this a slow cruise in some places.

So, it's desirable to have a UHF CB radio or mobile for when we

get broken up and need to change route due to traffic conditions.

Highlights:

Beach to Park (est time 1 1/2 - 2 hrs)

- Start Bunnings Mentone and along Beach Rd coast-line.

- Chapel St, Prahran run.

- Follow Yarra River along Alexandra Ave.

- Run down Dandenong Rd.

- Lunch-time pitstop at Caulfield Park

(If desired, convenient point to leave cruise).

Park to Bush (est time 1 hr)

- Further run down Dandenong Rd.

- Run up Mt Dandenong Tourist Rd including Kalorama lookout.

- Finish at The Churinga Cafe for Devonshire Tea (table for 10 reserved just in case).

Suggested Route:

Beach to Park

09:30 Assemble at Bunnings carpark, Mentone (off Nepean Highway Map 87 A4)

10:00 Head off. Turn left onto Nepean Highway toward Warrigal Rd.

xx:xx Turn right into Warrigal Rd (Map 87 B6).

xx:xx Turn right into Beach Rd (Map 87 B9) and head off along Beach Rd

towards city. Follows the coast-line.

xx:xx Along Beach Rd, pass through Beaumaris, Black Rock, Sandringham,

Hampton.

xx:xx Becomes Esplanade, pass through Brighton.

xx:xx Becomes St Kilda St, pass through Brighton (north).

xx:xx Left at Head St (Map 67 D5) for photo stop at Elwood Beach Carpark.

Possibly no toilets here and may need to pay for parking

but looks like lots of parking. (To be checked out.)

xx:xx Back along Head St (Map 67 C5) and cross St Kilda St.

xx:xx Left into New St (Map 67 E5)

xx:xx Up New St.

xx:xx Left into Nepean Highway (Map 67 E3).

xx:xx Up Nepean Highway

xx:xx Slip right into Chapel St (Map 58 D12)

xx:xx Up Chapel St (cross Dandenong Rd).

xx:xx Up Chapel St shopping strip (cross High St, Malvern Rd and Toorak Rd).

Will probably be very slow going due to Comm Games traffic.

xx:xx Right into Alexandra Ave (Map 58 E2) to follow Yarra River.

xx:xx Stay left into Alexandra Ave to go left around Thomas Oval (Map 58 G1). May need to

stop here to allow others to catch up.

xx:xx Straight ahead through roundabout still on Alexandra Ave (Map 58 G1) to follow Yarra River.

xx:xx Straight ahead through roundabout onto St Georges Rd (Map 58 J1).

xx:xx Right into Orrong Rd (Map 58 J1) (cross Toorak Rd and Malvern Rd).

xx:xx Left into Dandenong Rd (Map 58 H9)

xx:xx Head along Dandenong Rd until Caulfield.

xx:xx Slip right into Normanby Rd (Map 59 C11).

xx:xx Turn right into Kambrook Rd (Map 59 D12).

xx:xx Turn right into Balaclava Rd (Map 59 D12).

12:00? Turn right into Park Cr for parking(Map 59 D12)or park along Balaclava Rd (free parking)

Convenient point to leave the cruise if you like.

NB: Enter Park Cr from Balaclava Rd as it is blocked off in the centre.

Lunch stop at Caulfied Park

- 5 BBQ hot-plates (so you could bring bread and snags) or picnic lunch.

(if desired take-away shops nearby at corner Balaclava Rd/Hawthorn Rd)

- Toilets

- Kids playground

- Free parking spots in Park Cr, in Caulfied Park parking lot or along Balaclava Rd (short walk

to BBQ area).

NB: Beware of NO STANDING signs along some parts of Park Cr.

Park to Bush

13:00? Leave Caulfied Park. Out Park Cr, turn left into Balaclava Rd (Map 59 D12).

xx:xx Right into Normanby Rd (Map 59 E12).

xx:xx Left then right into Dandenong Rd.

xx:xx Head along Dandenong Rd towards Ferntree Gully Rd.

xx:xx Turn left into Ferntree Gully Rd (Map 69 H6).

xx:xx Head along Ferntree Gully Rd towards Burwood Highway.

13:30? Turn right into Burwood Highway (Map 73 J3)

xx:xx Head along Burwood Highway.

xx:xx Turn left into Mt Dandenong Tourist Rd (Map 74 G6).

xx:xx Head along Mt Dandenong Tourist Rd (go past William Ricketts Sanctuary).

xx:xx Short stop at Kalorama carpark lookout (Map 52 J9) for photo opportunity.

Pretty good views of Dandenong Ranges National Park and Silvan Reservoir.

Not that many carspots in the actual carpark, so may need to park

along Ridge Rd (behind the Verandah Shop).

xx:xx Turn around and go back the way we came along Mt Dandenong Tourist Rd to go to

William Ricketts carpark.

14:00? Finish at William Ricketts carpark (Map 66 G1) for Devonshire Tea at The Churinga Cafe

(Map 66 G1).

William Rickets free carpark and surrounded by trees.

If we can get the cars lined up, would be a good photo opportunity here also.

The Churinga Cafe (1381 Mt Dandenong Tourist Rd, ph 03 9751 1242) is right next to the carpark.

Toilets and Devonshire teas are available here.

A table for 10 has been booked for arrival between 2pm and 3:30pm

(depending on traffic conditions) as it can be quite busy on Sundays.

Devonshire Tea Prices:

- 2 scones, jam, cream and 1 pot of tea $8.95 (NB: tea only and not coffee)

- 2 scones, jam and cream $7.65 (order this and coffee if you want scones with coffee)

- Cup of coffee (cappucino, flat, latte, etc) $2.95

(On Sun 26 Feb, carpark was almost empty at 2:30pm but was advised that on some Sundays

you have to queue to get into The Churinga Cafe!)

Here are the maps of the suggested route:

Geea. :rtfm:

My trade off for the W/E was that the missus could stay home and watch the entire box set of Sex in the City. Me thinks she will have sqaure eyes, theres over 16 dvds! :rtfm:

So I'll have the rugrats aswell, but that's ok, cos they always say "Daddy, can you do Boost?!" :fool:

Is it safe letting all these looneys on tthe forum your missus will be home alone , even worse if there partners find out your missus is watching sex in the city you might have a flock of mothers over while your away. And when you come home she will have told them all your little secrets.LOL
