Well I finally done it, took the cat off and replaced it with a 3" pipe. I Had to lead the exhaust guy by the hand but got there in the end. (There's some guys out there that should be selling icecreams). Any way I took it back for a retune and it went from 285rw to 320rw.I have red on the forum that the cat is the big restriction. and see that now.It is quite a bit noisier now but I still dont mind but if I get sick of it I will put my centre muffler back in.

I got the 320rw on the first run and also the car dropped 2 cylinders (valve springs). So in went a set of Nizpros. I also got it backed off to 302rw as I am still a little bit worried about other things and am happy with what I have.

With the cat gone it seems a lot more responsive for a 18rw gain. I have a Q that somebody might help me with.Would it be the cat removal that made it so much more responsive or do the factory springs start to break down over a period and the Nizpros compencated for this?I did notice after I had the 285rw tune it didn't perform as well after a while. Also it's a MK11 auto 10,000ks

Thanks guys

With the cork removed from its ass it will be heaps more responsive..

285>>>320 = 35 rwkws and helps heaps with the response as you mentioned.

I did get the 35 gain but I backed it off to 303rw but it still feels like a 35rw gain. When you are driving it feels like it's being held back and wants to take off it's so much more responsive and I thought the valve springs might have been playing up all along :spoton:

Did you punch out the cat or completely remove it??/Good gains by the way :spoton:

Hi, no in the end I got him to put a 3" pipe down to the twin pipesWe dont have a law in NZ at the moment regarding the cat,but it is coming. It seems to be a lot more responsive all over the range. I really couldn't believe the difference it made, that's why I thought my valve springs might have been an issue.

I replaced the cat with a 3" pipe (for a temporary trial period) and it resulted in a similar gain on the dyno to yours. As you have reported what was more impressive was the increased throttle response across the entire rev range.

My valve springs also need replacing however this only restricts performance above 5000rpm so I think you can thank the lost cat for the bulk of your useable gains.

If noise is an issue replace your centre muffler, I have a 3" system with centre muffler intact and the cat removal made very little if any difference to the sound, until you put your boot into it that is. :spoton:

Congrats on the great results :spoton:

Thanks Jordak a great reply.I was hoping someone would come up with a similar result. I thought it might have been all in the mind. :msm::blink:
