I just brought an BA XR6T back in december.

I love the car to bits but it has developed a "wosh wosh" noise from the rear end. I have heard the same noise on other falcons and commodores so my guess it is the common diff they share but that is just a guess.

I was wondering if anyone on here has a more exact answer to what the noise is and if it is serious.

Oh you I forgot to add it only happens at low speeds (IE 20 km and below).

Sounds like the handbrake is rubbing

that would make sense but I am pretty sure I put the hand brake right down. Why would it be rubbing?

They get stuck all the time even when released very very common

It is also common that the rotors warp slightly (to say the standard ford brakes are sh*t, would be being very kind!), so as the rotor turns and passes through the caliper it will slightly touch, hence the brushing sound you here... I have had this also, it comes an goes. Can be annoying when driving slowly beside another car as you get the reverb... No biggy!

Cheers

Actually the handbrake is a separate part to the rear braking system. It is a small drum type brake behind each rear disc. I think it's the shoes that get out of alignment. I spoke to a Ford service manager about it once and he conceeded it was a design fault and affects both Fords and Holdens. Not even fixed in the BF apparantly! :crybaby:

Check out this thread on how to adjust properly yourself if you feel the need. http://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/index.ph...54&hl=handbrake

I've have never bothered to do it myself but I've had the dealer check it a few times. I think they actually did it properly once too. It's easy to get rid of for awhile by lifting the handbrake at very slow speed, like 5 kph. Don't let the dealer charge you for "handbrake adjustment". You are entitled to have it fixed under warranty!! :msm:
