I ordered thru Knox Ford and after they told me I had to wait 6 - 12 weeks longer than originally quoted, I changed to to Westpoint Ford at Werribee and had the car about 2 weeks later than they quoted and still 2 weeks earlier than Knox originally quoted.

If you haven't noticed, they sponsor the forum and I'm sure you will be looked after. PM wally or call and ask for Craig Waller.

BTW - they looked after me BEFORE they started sponsoring the site.

Guys,

Something sounds really wrong with all this. Normally the order/delivery process should be something like this (probably over-simplified but good for the example):

1. You place order with your dealer, generally from their own allocation, unless it is a Ford employee vehicle.

2. Dealer places order with Ford, this is acknowledged with a SIDO. Dealer should tell you the SIDO. This specifies the car with your options etc.

3. Ford program your car for a production date, normally at the end of each month for production in the next month.

4. Once a production date has been programmed or set, that should be set in stone (almost) as Ford's computer production system (MRP) automatically allocates resources (ie leather seats, premium sound etc) based on those available. Think just in time (JIT) manufacturing. This is where you could speed up your build date if you take premium sound or leather seats etc out of your order. They may only have 500 setc of premium sound available for a particular month.

5. After production, the car goes to FPV for some extra work, sunroof etc then it is transported to your dealer. This process alone could take from 1 to 6 weeks depending upon where you live. I believe the bulk of this delay is due to the transport company.

What I am trying to highlight is that if you have been given a SIDO and a build date, then there should be no reason that the car should be delayed due to your options such as leather and premium sound. These limitations are already taken into consideration by the Ford manufacturing scheduling system.

Sounds to me like your dealers might be trading/on-selling your allocated vehicles to retail customers or customers paying a premium.

What you say should be right Isher but when I was told of the delay I rang two other Ford dealers saying I was in the market and would be down to purchase a T if they didn't BS me about the REAL lead time. I was quoted 5 and 5.5 months! What do you do after that?

W.A. - the wait awhile state. :(

I was talking to a mate of mine 2 weekends ago, and he was saying that his brother is getting a T for a company car.

I asked about it, and he was saying his bro is really keen to get it, if it ever arrives.

Apparently the order went in last october, and there is still no sign of it. (seems a bit odd).

I asked if he had the sido number so I could chase it up, and he doesnt think his bro even has that.

I told him to sign up on the forums... so keep an eye out for him.

if leather is a problem, here is a idea maybe.

Drop the leather, and get herrods to do a full re-stich in leather for you later on.

I know it wont be factory leather, but if it gets you your car earlier, maybe something to think about?

Only for those who are desperate I guess!

If premium sound is a problem, im sorry, looks like you will have to wait!

I dont think its right to have to delete options off your car, in order to get the car delivered the same year you order it!
