I was told 7-8 weeks from the date of Deposit.

I was given the good news today that im getting it 2 weeks early. 10th October yipee!

Sorry to hear about some the waits being experienced guys. Keeping in mind that mine is a novated lease order, I initially ordered on 7th November and have been advised delivery of sedan with technology pack, reverse sensor, security, tints and protection treatment (as demanded by lease co) mid December. They say this is a delayed delivery mainly due to tech pack and reverse sensors. The order was only firmly place today so I guess for me it looks like a 1 month wait. BTW order is from dealer in Brisbane.

I think you will find that the dealers do not stock anything other than base models.

I had to wait 6 weeks for my ute to be built!!(tech pack, lux pack)

mind you when the time comes you will appreciate the car more :P

Hey mate. Mine is coming from Byrne Ford and when I visited the indooroopilly dealership to initially suss things out they had at least 2 there that I could see and I got the distinct impression that if I would by privately from stock (and no add-ons) I could have a deal on the day. Must say I am a bit surprised about the supply problems with the xr6t sedans ...here's me thinking that due to the financial meltdown, new car sales will really have bottomed out. Since coming to this site I seem to be getting an education about how popular (and in limited supply) these cars are. Anyway, I'm flabbergasted that ford didn't realise how many of these units they could sell upon the release of the FG range and at least bias production towards them a bit more over the standard models.....

Just as I feared....upon contact today, the goalposts appear to be shifting. Delivery may still occur to dealer by the given date but "as the car is not manufactured yet, it's not possible to provide a firm delibery date".....So here I am, approaching one month after order and am starting to get a changing storyline. My response = order cancelled on the spot(I won't comment on what I am replacing this with as it may offend some people).

Anyway, in my view, if this is the way ford still does business then good luck, count me out. I tried to vote with my dollar for a great local marque (and for aussie jobs) but they cannot expect everyone to wear these flakey lead times. Even if they have reduced manufacturing throughput to gain lower costs, basic production planning still affords a competent company a predictable and reasonable order to delivery lead time. They should also be up-front with actual lead times. Good luck Ford...I really mean it.

Mate, I think cancelling the order 10 days after it was placed is a bit extreme! Dealers won't give an exact date for delivery because things change. If the dealer says you will get your car on the 12th of December, for example, and the transport company is running behind, you will get upset because the dealer promised you a time and date - something which isn't always manageable due to third parties.

Vehicles are given a 4-6week build time, depending on what options are chosen and what is currently being built on the production line. Its impossible to have every colour/transmission/option variants in dealer stock, there are just too many, and with the new car market in such a bad way dealers don't want to hold random stock because they have to pay for it until its sold.

I think you will find any manufacturer will be the same with ETA's - if they give you an exact date, be prepared to be dissapointed! Not saying that it will definately happen, but there is a good chance

I do know what you mean senna_T. If the dealer had explained it openly and honestly as you have, then I might have still placed the order (I suspect not however as I find more than 1 month lead time unacceptable). Some basic production planning combined with marketing techniques assist greatly when it comes to fulfilling demand (ie they should know statistically what customer preferences are and then based on a stock buffer, enable buyers to order against this to keep the lead times down)...On a positive note, at least buyers like me help remind ford that their supply chain policies do come at a cost and I have made sure that ford customer care understand why a customer like me just walked away.

Interestingly, a rather eager Customer Care organisation has started to show some interest although they seem very adamant in the first instance that the dealer is the king of the transaction but at least some useful information has started to flow and the impression is forming that they actually want to sell cars to people! Not sure where this is going to go but will post anything informative....
