Do you drive around every day on m/t's? Seriously? I know with drag slicks or similar any car has grip, but on street driven tyres?

It says in your sig you've run a 12.3 at 116mph, was that with a 1.79 60ft? I was running 13.0 with 104mph with 1.8sec 60ft, the times dont work out in my head, you've got 12mph more over the line but only 7 10ths quicker over the qtr with a faster 60ft?

That 12.3 was with a 1.89 60 foot time.

And that run was done on a 270rwkw tune

My 12.3 was done on streets and if I was silly enough to smoke em up at the lights to race a rex id probably beat it off the mark too.

So that 1.79 was done with m/ts on the strip, which I know they can do with grip/power, now as we are talking about smashing REX's on the road, what tyres are you running everyday? And I drive an XR6T with 240rwkws with a Kewish Autos gearbox in it with a 2500 stall, so I now what kind of grip I get with $400 each tyres (been out finding their limits today).

I think with slicks on I could launch damn hard, but on street tyres theres no way I can get the grip needed to munch a modded rex.

But arent they in clutch snapping territory if they launch really hard.

They might be quick off the line but the T powers home pretty well.

Not the new 6spd Rex's and as I said mine was an auto, so snapping going on. Its mainly the older ones that snap things, but that's mainly the whole gearbox not the clutch.

Yeah I know the T has the power advantage, but you need a decent length drag for that to help, as in above 160kph, then you'll be passing them. Dont get me wrong, theres no way I would have even bothered against a T on the roll, their rolling start grunt is amazing.

I expected Geeas and Adams 60fts to be awesome, the ET's dictate that, but in true street trim I know neither of those cars run their race tunes, as it would cost them an arm ( I know all about that) to run them on C16 all the time, so I guess you could call them street driven drag cars.

Lets say a 300rwkw XR6T came up against a 12.5 sec Rex (Iwhich would be around the 180kws atws mark or thereabouts), which runs 1.8 60fts all day everyday, not dependant on different rubber, both on the road, say a nice set of lights. The rex dials up 6k, the XR6T stalls up 2500rpm, the lights go green, are you telling me the street tyres on the XR are going to hold that much torque without spinning? I know the rex wont have traction troubles.

Over the years ive heard many a claim that so and so's car will flog my wagon cause it runs 12's at Calder, but trust me the road is a whole new ball game. I've shattered many a dream......

I've had awd 2lt mitsi. 6k launches saw 1.6's at the track all day long, on Yokahama es100's. Try it on the street, I'd get awd wheelspin thru 1st and chirp 2nd.

My ute with 326 rwkw is just as quick to 100kph ( ~4.3 seconds ), but suffers from it's lard ass and slow 2.3 60".

12.80 @ 116mph from the ute 2.3 60' ( $4k in mods- Dump pipe, cat and actuator, $60k vehicle )

12.85 @ 110mph from evo powered mitsi. 1.6/7 60' ( $10k Mods, including suspension, intercooler, brakes, piping, the lot.. $ 25k vehicle)

On the road, at the lights, my last car would have bollocked me, and my ute would have shown it the door 3 seconds later.

basic mods (a CAI, exhaust and ECU) will give a wrx an extra 40-50kw(ATW), more than enough to demolish your stock phoon (even if they dont launch it initially)

my bro has now done the above mods and we raced from a 70 roll an the stock xrt was still faster..

not nearly as much as it used to be, granted, but he sure as sh1t wasn't winning..

that's incredible - like I said those mods should definately give that amount of power (MRT actually guarantee it), which makes the wrx very quick indeed (should be low 5 / high 4 second 0-100).

where did he get the mods done and what brand are they? has he had a dyno done? provided he is launching properly, he should be spanking you in a straight line, if he is not then I think something is wrong!! (or your T is a freak!)

the reason they all get drilled on the street by the T's is that if the rex driver doesnt know if the other is draggin, they take off normally then once on the throttle, they get dusted every time.. in order to launch the rice boxes, you need to drop the clutch at 6,000rpm whereas the T has way more at low revs. 

that's true, the only way to get off quickly is with a clutch dump. this would account for most of your "wins"

Iv drilled many a modified WRX's in not only the old SS, but also the Phoon which are dead STOCK. No stupid noisy bov's or ridiculously loud exhausts that all sound the same as one another! 

"modded" - can mean anything, for example the wrx's out there with just a BOV or diff back exhaust - does nothing for performance (in fact usually makes it wose).

True, but mine will always be stock and under warrenty, and if later on I did decide to do an edit, exhaust etc. then it would still demolish a rex for a dollar to dollar spent basis in a straight line, despite it even weighing in at 1805kg. Mate, im not gonna argue wid you, I cant be bothered. Okay hows this, back to thread topic.. In an auto T, you will win in a straight line drag with a rex (stock one), if they dont dump the clutch at 6 thou. (And if it was in the wet )

If a rex is what u like then great! Im happy for you, I really am, they drive okay for what they are (Mate has a resonably new 04-05? sti, cat back exhaust only), the T's are actually aimed at people like yourself who eventually decide to maybe have a family one day and need the extra room, and yet still want a car that's fairly quick. Rexies just dont "float my boat" that's all. Literally.

agree with all that, although I would remind you of the price difference between the phoon and the wrx.

BTW, just to clarify, im not bashing the T, its a great car (that's why im on my second) and really a different package/value proposition to a wrx (ie they arent in the same class). but, im not going to sit back and say nothing when I read morons braging about their cars being all conquering when they simply arent.

just read the latest motor mag the mrt p-25 kitted wrx(kit cost $25695)ran et 12.66 so not shore what class you are talking about ,aps phase 11 kit cost a fraction of that and I still can beats it.

by class I mean small AWD 2L turbo v large RWD 6cyl turbo = not appples with apples. no arguement here that for the $$, XR6T is BFYB winner when it comes to mods and straight line performance.

that P25 kit is rediculously expensive - for that money you could get better results from an STi via other avenues. what you dont get is the warranty and convenience. its definately not a good benchmark to use to compare.
