I also managed a 1:25.6 in the wife's Hyundai Elantra.  Even rounded up a BMW 130i until things went to  :msm: .  It's going to cost me $900 :spoton:.  Not sure if I can afford to go again at that rate.

I may be interested in giving it a go one day but not if the walls are too close to the track. Can't afford to break the car. From forrestd's video it looks like the corner at the end of the straight is the place to really keep an eye on things. What sort of speed do you guys reach?

After running it over and over in my head trying to determine what happened I think as I was approaching the kink at around 130km/h I moved left to allow a WRX to pass which then required some extra wheel to take that kink. This combined with lifting off the gas and a light touch of the brakes in a dirty line saw the back end coming around to say hello and giving the WRX a glancing tap. I fair :spoton: myself and decided that that was perhaps enough racing for me for the day.

It was a real shame because for me it put a dampener on what was an excellent day and I was very careful all day to keep clear of faster traffic.

don't worry Muz your not by your self when it comes to off road action for the day.

Next time just stick to the XR mate and Im sure you'll have a better day. :spoton:

Yeah I'll stick with the Falcon, somehow I don't think the missus will handover her car keys to me at Wakefield again anyway.

Has anyone been to a drive day at eastern creek? How does it compare to wakefield? A group of mates are keen to have a go and we were wondering what the pros and cons of each are.

eg

price- WP $90 + $40 licence, EC $250???

distance from home- WP 2.5 hrs, EC 10 minutes

the track itself- WB narrow and bumpy, EC wide and smooth

probability of collecting something solid if you stuff up big time- WP ???, EC ???

I'll be looking to do it after I change the non-premo front rotors. The car is out of warranty now and (again) a month after the last service, they are warped again. What do you guys reckon is the better option, DBA gold (drilled + slotted) or Slotted only?

I've driven Eastern Ck but not in anger - I don't think there is much to hit. There is nothing to hit at Wakefield - Oh OK, someone hit another CAR but that can happen anywhere :stirthepot:

I know Eastern Ck is more expensive but don't know how much - check the website I suppose. Also I think at Eastern Ck they will only open the track for a booked event so you have to pay a set fee of $xx regardless how many turn up. I'm NOT absolutely sure on this so will stand corrected if anyone knows better.

Wakefield is a cheap day of fun IMO. And the track, although it doesn't suit larger cars, is still very worthwhile and a well set-up large car will still beat a poorly set-up or poorly driven small car. I've never felt overwhelmed whenever I've taken the T3 there - just loooove giving it to those Rexes :gooff::kissmy:

As for rotors I would stay away from cross-drilled as I have heard of a lot of people cracking them. However, I don't know personally of it happening so it might be just one of those urban myths. Anyhow, slotted will be just fine.

Wakefield is fun but nothing on Eastern Creek

EC is a smooth track with nice flowing corners and a straight that you can do 200kph+ on :spoton: Now that's gotta be a good thing :sleepystuff:

Ooops, that wouldn't suit my car then - I run out of accelleration at 200km/h because of the really tall overdrive. The T3's grunt is all from 0 to 200. Now if you give me a T56 six speed I'll go ...

What's the cost of a day at eastern Ck Jeff? Do you want to organise a day?? Or even Oran Park???

I did Eastern Creek yesterday, and as already mentioned it is very different vs Wakefield. Much quicker but more flowing - and somewhat less taxing on the car. Cost was $250 for the day, which included a (rather ordinary) lunch. It took me quite a few sessions to get some confidence, Here is a little video I took yesterday to give you idea of the track

You can see I over-cooked it in the end, doh.

Video is a bit deceptive in terms of speed, I was hitting 200km/h on the straight, but some of the gruntier cars well over that. Btw the open day comes with instructors who give you some pre-session tuition, and in-car instruction also. Personally I think Wakefield is a bit more fun, rspecially for newbies. EC is a technical circuit and much quicker, but definitely worth doing.

Another awesome video. Thanks for the comments guys. I think I am a bit limited in where/when we can go as a few or my mates want to bring their bikes along.

Looking forward to the next Wakefield session, will be coming along for a look.
