285 rwkw should see you well into the 12's, even mid to low.

Heres how.

Assuming stock auto, tyres and stall convertor.

Set your tyres to 18-20psi.

Do a nice, but not huge burnout, the stock dunny's dont heat up much anyway, it more to clean them. I ussually do it in Drive, the car can select 2nd when it wants then.

Stage up, FORGET ABOUT THE LIGHTS, it wont affect your time, your time starts whan you break the front beam, so stage as shallow as you can, this is, when the first light comes on, creep foward as slow as you can so you JUST turn on the second light, this will allow the car to move about 300mm before your time starts, it also mean you are off the brakes and on the gas when you cross the line.

Put the car in to Performance mode, but still in auto, let it change the gears, I am yet to better the times when self shifting, so as you stage, slide selector over to the left, and leave it.

Stall up to 2000rpm, this is a good starting point, you should not get too much spin if the track is clean and tryres pressures are correct. when its time to go, step of the brake with left foot and floor it,

Stalling up isnt as hard on the drive line as you think, all the uni's aetc are loaded up so there isnt any shock load, its tough on the auto if you hold it for too long, but a few seconds once staged wont hurt.

Again, forget the light, the other guy and reaction time, dont go until your ready, make sure your RPM is spot on, and hold it flat all the way home.

if you have 285rwkw, you should be around 12.4 to 12.6 depending on your 6-0ft time, which should be abour 2.1-2.4sec, your mph should be 115-116 mph, and tyre spin etc wont change that, your mph will tell you how much HP you have.

last and most important part; HAVE FUN.

Best of luck.

Almost forgot, DONT RUN with any less than half atank of fuel unless you have asurge tank and external tank, the swirl pot is very small and at the front of the tank, if you hold it flat, by about 4000rpm third gear, you will run out of fuel, the car will die in the bum.

HALF tank minimum.

Several other will tell you the same, the 25kilo you save in weight is not worth it, loose the spare/jack instead, they weigh 29kg's.

I followed eugenes SOP on drag racing an auto T  and it works. I ran 12.5 @280rwkw .. 2000 stall, and just step off the brake as you plant your right foot. Does take practice to get perfect but when you do watch your 60 foot times fall. I dropped mine from 2.4's to 2.0's.. Theres a half a second almost off your time there.. Good Luck !

That is good advice, happened to me a couple of times, top end of third on low fuel car just died and took a minute or so to clear itself.

Was told it was valve spring related however haven't been able to repeat it with a decent amount of fuel in the tank.

yes that is good info, mine had 275rwks, but with a stall and good tyres. but it shows how far 275 can go. the other thing with the standed crossover gear, is to leave your car with the bonet open, right up to near end of staging. I leave mine for an hour, and keep lightly spraying the pipework, and intercooler, not to much so it drips on the track though. because the car gets more heat soak at the drags with all the idling around.

hope this helps

Im yet to run the XR down the Qtr, but have run my last car plenty of times, Eugenes advice is brilliant, forget the other guy, and the lights, they really mean nothing. Unless your best mate is in the lane beside you, then you may wanna leave asap....

Drags are a weird thing to calculate, but rule of thumb that I was tought was if you drop your 60ft by .2sec, that's .4 at the other end, and it works too. I remember running a 13.8 with a 2.1 60ft in my Legacy, then I got the launch better next run with a 1.8 60ft which gave me a 13.2.

Best thing is to practice getting off the line. Once your moving the auto does its thing, but off the line your foot has a massive say in whats happening.

Hi, no I haven't tried stalling up, seemed to be good grip on the strip so I dont think that was an issue. My mph was all over the place 175.53-170.82.Might try stalling up next time but it can't be good for the gearbox.

With speeds like that (after all, we are talking 281 to 273 kilometers per hour) you should definately be breaking 10's easy.

10's? You'd be smacking the 8's and if you werent you'd be sh*tty....

Still makes me wonder why Calder give you everything in mph when theres prolly two cars per night that have mph speedos. Even the new signs are mph.

Hey guys, what rear tyres is everyone running achieving mid 12's ?

I've got 235 rear tyres on 18's - just Nankang low profile jobbies.

Will it go up in smoke with TC turned off? (Auto)

Is everyone running 265 rears with pilot sports or M/T's or similar?

Just wondering what combinations do the trick off the line.
