Has been a lot of talk on this forum about headlight / globe upgrades. Now I see this mob in Australia are selling Xenon kits for aftermarket fitment.

Are pretty expensive - but they will do deals for clubs.

Anyone got them? - or any views on how good they would be??

The lights you are referring to are HID's (High intensety discharge) not xenon, as you can get xenon/halogen replacement globes anywhere.

HID's require a ballast and are totally different to the normal globes.

I am ordering a set of H4 (low only) for the F6, but I am gonna get the $200 from eBay to see how well they work.

My biggest consern is the glare factor from the origional reflectors.

Apparently they are illegal for non standard cars because of the glare factor.

I feel that the improvement in light is a good thing, so this is why I am going to try them out.

Thanks for this.

If you look at some U.S. websites the vehicle manufacturers use Xenon and HID interchangeably; take your point though on the fact there are Xenon-only globes out there...

Also, you wouldn't expect Neal Bates would promote something that is illegal in OZ(?)

Are you trying out the full-meal-deal, I.e. Xenon globes and ballast? or just globes?

I am going the upgrade kit that has the ballasts and wiring +globes.

Make sure you do not go above 6000k for the globes or it will look too blue.

I am sure that ANY non HID car fitted with after market HID's is illegal. Neil Bates can sell them, but they are for "offroad use only"

I have read good and bad things about the cheap ebay kits, but I figure it is better to spend $200 on a cheap kit and replace the globes when they blow than spend $1,000 on a better quality kit.

Its not illegal because of the glare on the reflectors.

Its illegal because you dont have any spray jets to clean your lights which cause glare, nor does it have any auto position levelling which can be most annoying to oncoming traffic. (the light moves around because of the vibrations of the road)

Unless you do alot of highway driving then there is no point to getting HID's as the current lights are sufficient for normal city road use.

If you are that worried about not being bright enough. Buy some Premium Xenon Halogen – 50% Brighter White Light globes from your local SuperCrap Auto or Autobahn.

P.S Id love to be a cop and defect all the current ricers out there with HID conversions in their cars.

I believe that a member here (wasn't it Trumpy?) had these fitted to his T many moons ago for an independent test? Can't remember exactly what he though but I believe there was an improvement?

This may be a silly question but will the conversion kits upgrade the low beam and highbeam and can you change the globes for the park lights to look similar.. ie not so yellow more of a white.. and what kit would you need? ie the globe numbers

The main hi/lo beams are H4, you can replace the parkers for a LED white unit that will give a whiter light.

The H4's in HID come in 3 types. There is a low only, low HID with a hallogen high and the HID hi/low. The last one will cost heaps more as it has a solinoid to change between hi/lo. I was planning to get the low only as the low in HID will be great with +50 highbeams.
