Like there is an ad in the trading post (melbourne) that makes custom coolers starting from $400. Are these crappy places to go too. I really like the APS cooler, the design, the size and all that but to purchase the kit is expecnsive. Can anyone help or has anyone got ideas?ThanxNesh<{POST_SNAPBACK}>Nesh,I was going to have my IC custom made, to my own design and plans and something that would bolt straight in. I decided not to proceed with it. The cost to have one off items made is very expensive, when you compare it to whats already available for under $1000. But Hey, if you want one then go for it. be good to see another option out there.macka Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/23058-custom-made-ic/page/2/#findComment-343346 Share on other sites

I jus tthought it would be cheaper that's all, but I guess not.Thanx for the info mackaNesh Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/23058-custom-made-ic/page/2/#findComment-343496 Share on other sites

A lot of time is spent measuring cutting and welding end tanks and plumbing brackets. I could see $500 - $600 being spent on labour even more depending on how you design it to fit, then, there are material costs. A half descent core will cost approx $800 for a large one, then there's the end tanks. etc.I think you see the picture. Anything under $1400 for a quality IC is money well spent.I woud still like to do one in the future when I have the money, and be able to say its mine but that's me, that's how the Shaker came to frutition macka Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/23058-custom-made-ic/page/2/#findComment-343684 Share on other sites

I was told it comes with all brackets and is a direct fit. Can't go wrong for that price I reckon!!! awill4x4 Member 7 Member For: 19y 7m 8d Location: Carrum Downs Melbourne Posted 10/02/06 12:00 PM Share Posted 10/02/06 12:00 PM I'm a specialist Tig welder in the motorsport industry and the main problem is the fact that all the work is "custom" and this takes time, and time equates to money. When your producing welding work to world quality standards it's frustrating when people say ( I can get one on ebay for $200) and they can as they are all mass produced in China with weld quality I wouldn't personally be proud of. For example a quality custom core from PWR or Adrad will start at $400 and go up from there. Personally I'm a fan of tube and fin as the construction is stronger than the more complicated bar plate. Have a good look at some of the cheap Chinese tube and fin cores and compare to PWR or Adrad, the difference is noticable side by side with poor internal finning (turbulators) and the furnace brazing on the cores is not up to the PWR/ Adrad standard as well. I have used both cores in the past, personally I have a leaning towards the Adrad one, I believe it to be stronger than the K&J (PWR) core with a better air flow through the header plate assembly. It is almost to bar and plate standard in the way it's finished so close to the header plate. In comparison the K&J core has protruding tubes which will probably interfere slightly with the airflow, but the internal finning on the K&J core is superior in my opinion, there may be a slightly better cooling on the K&J but the pressure drop may also be slightly worse than the Adrad one.Either way, these 2 manufacturers produce a world class quality product, far superior to the Chinese imports in both quality and more particularly, strength.Regards Andrew. My next project is a water to air intercooler on a Turbo EL Falcon (note, on this I/cooler I used a K&J/ PWR core) Regards Andrew.
