If you are going to mod and want a quick car, get an Auto.

Depending on what type of driver you are, should determin the best gearbox....but

The 6 speed T56 is MUCH better than the T5 5 speed manual

The ZF 6 speed auto is MUCH better than the 4 speed BTR Auto.

Depending on your budget should determin the best choice, but I would use the above as a guide as to what is better.

I got a 6 speed man and after driving the F6 - 6 speed auto (which drives very nicely for an auto unit), I think I will be sticking to the manual. Couldn't justify the $30K change over price on my 2005 T. Having said that I still gotta sort out the surging characteristic caused by the coasting fuel shut-off and the noisy box in 1st and low speed in 2nd and 3rd.

I have the 6 speed manual and love it  ..

the auto is quicker in a straight line when comparing modofied cars... I think stock they are about the same or the manual might just actually pip it.

if you like track days the manual is quicker...

get what ever rocks your boat. you cant go wrong :fool:

It's simple

Do you want a cruiser or do you want to have fun??

If you want to drive your car... get a manual. If you want it to drive for you... get an auto. I find the manual much more challenging, and havent come across many stock auto Ts which are quicker than my gear changes down the quarter!

If you intend to mod the car and want to go quick get an auto. If you don't intend to mod or only minor mods then the choice doesn't really matter.

The more power you get the bigger the advantage of the auto over the manual.

Geea. :gooff:

I think the key advice is DON'T get the T5 if you want to mod (any more than just an edit) the car and keep it for any length of time.

Several of the 5 speeds have let go and a number of us have changed over to T56's (6 speed) to improve reliability with mods prior to issues with the T5 (which is very expensive).

The autos are recording the fastest times down the quarter and are much easier to launch if you are after speed at the drags.

If your budget will not allow a Series II with a 6 speed manual get the auto, if you can, then buy what you want...

I love my manual!

Cheers,

Ben.
