Doors without electrical windows. If purely for racing, remove the glass totally from the doors , possibly replacing with plastic. I have heard AU doors will fit.Can someone give weights of all the removable items eg. bonnet, doors , seats etc. so we can see what items are worth replacing. I'd like to shed some weight out of the car. Ok not to the extreme of stripping out the carpets etc, all old tricks but was wonderinf if there was something specific to XR's that could be removed *shrugs*

I had enkei RPO2s on my ute. 5kg a corner lighter than the stock rims. There's 20kgs. Your suspension will work better. Braking distances will improve. And ofcourse, acceleration.Plus, you'll start to customize the look of your car.The carbon fiber bonnets from AWC are said to be 15kg lighter than the stock bonnet from memory?Remove the wing. Couple of kilos there. (for utes, remove hardcover/sports bar)Lightweight racing seats.Lightwheigt battery.Remove spare tyre and jack. (Rely on roadside assist if you get a puncture)All this would probably equal the weight of an average passenger? I definately notice the extra weight when I've got someone riding shotgun... That's all I can think of before you start compromising the 'comfort' of your car. Start removing speakers, door trims, headliner, air con, rear seats you start to lose the day to day driveability, liveability, of the car. I understand my mindset is differant to alot of you guys here(probably age differance I guess). Eitherway thanks for the few suggestions that were put forward, guess we can end the thread here

But....Semi Practical Suggestions:- Carbon Bonnet (as done)- Carbon Boot - Remove Spoiler- Light weight 17 inch wheels (not 18, 19s etc)- Replace rear side windows and rear screen - lexan- Remove all Electric winders from rear doors. (and front if you can fit manual winders.- Replace Front seats with race seats- Remove Spare Wheel/Jack- Remove TowbarYou might be able to save 150kgs with above, and not affect the useability or appearance of the car much. But... is it worth it?Less practical suggestions:- remove carpets, dash (replace with instruments only), radio etc, rear seats, replace front windows with lexan - and probaly save another 100kgsor.... Build a race car out of something light weight with an XR6T motor and box (I would love one for my Escort race car).

I have some light weight Volks left over from nissan project which should fit onto the car.150kg is still a decent weight saving. It isnt going to be a race car but for the odd track day the less weight will help and the odd traffic light duel As you suggest for a race car I'd find something like a Cortina and use the XR6T engine or my spare RB26DETT

(in fact - tint the lexan as per front windows - and youd never know. Edited 30/01/06 11:19 PM by cobrav8
