I tried the F1's and on my car they were absoluting shocking, was happy to have got rid of them, running a cheap Chinese Tyre (Wan Li) modeled on the HSV GTO tread pattern and they are giving me probably 50% more grip over the F1's, of course this is based on my driving patterns.

Did you notice where your F1s were made? When Wheels tested the F1 on a XR6T it rated near the bottom, but the following year came 1st when tested on a Focus. I don't have a copy of the Wheels test, but I'd guess the F1s that they tested on the XR6T were made in Australia. The F1's tested on the Focus were made in Germany.

You might find that the Focus tyres were a different compund for a smaller car - hance the better grip - or.. The Falcon being heavier was overheating the tyres on a hot track test.

Can't say I checked if they wer made here or in Germany, got them from the nearby Beau Shop..

The Wan Li's are 19" and I paid $310 a corner from them. Had them on the car now over 10k and they still grip well even with my heavy right foot.

The only tyre that goodyear makes that is worth a damn is the f1 GS-D3. However, they are an excellent tyre and are to date the best wet weather tyre of any manufacturer. They pay a small price in the dry and aren't quite up to the Micheplin SP2, Dunlop Sport Maxx, Yokohama Advans, but are still excellent. By early reports coming through the new Dunlop Sports Maxx might be as good in the wet and if so they'd be hard to go past as they are fabulous in the dry too. I've got GS-D3 on the back of my VT and just last week fitted Dunlop Maxx on the front.

I've got F1 GS-D3s and so far have been very happy with them. Good ride quality, relatively quiet and almost impossible to break traction under heavy straight line acceleration in the dry. :stirthepot:

Found the Motor 2005 tyre test last night - they tested 18s on a XR6T. The Goodyear GSD3s finished way out in front in the wet tests, but not so good in the dry (braking and cornering) and were rated 3rd overall. So they did much better than in the Wheels test, and being 18s were made in Germany.
