Hi Guys

I was wondering with our gov't (aka fun police) banning different things on an almost daily basis I was wondering what happens to cars with existing mods if those mods become illegal (and not for any real safety reason, just because a vocal minority complained)

Is the owner forced to change their mods???

Is it a case of the mod is no longer allowed to be done but cars with the existing mod may still be driven???

Is the owner simply given a grace period in which to change their mod???

Whilst I know some people in here don't worry about the legalitys as much what happens with the people who do...

Just wondering...

Any "mod" on a car that is not Factory Fitted is technically illegal unless it has been approved by an Engineer.

This mainly applies to wheels, exhausts, exterior and driveline/motor.

There is a lot of fragmentation on these laws, and it seems to differ, depending on who you are asking and who is trying to enforce them.

If you ask the EPA/RTA about pod filters and external venting blow off valves, the could not care less, yet these items are picked on by cops.

Very few cops know the true laws, but my understanding is that every non standard "mod" is illegal, inlcuding the pine tree airfreshner hanging from the mirror.

Raphoon was also pulled over (same car as buffoon and same colour).... the cop let him off with a warning but did say "that car, that colour, you will get done".... figure that one out!

Funny this should be mentioned here.

Today I got a magazine in the mail which is issued to workshops well geuss what on of the main stories is about that's right modded cars.

the australian goverment is going to bring one set of rules for the whole of the country in regaurds to modds.

so we can expect some changes to come soon.

I guess we are lucky we do not drive Skylines, as over on that forum every other post is about being defected.

I have seen many examples of cops on power trips trying to find reasons to defect cars. I also remember someone on here being sent a EPA letter because his stock exhaust was to loud.

I guess we are lucky that our cars can be significantly faster without the need for visual mods that can attract a yellow sticker.
