ANY BODY HEARD THIS BEFORE

The latest rumour to come out of the Stone Bros Racing/Marcus Ambrose/Warren Luff balaclava incident is that a competing team dropped SBR in it by protesting to Australia's motor sport governing body, CAMS,about the Pirtek drivers not wearing their balaclavas.Sometime ago,a decision was apparently made between the drivers that wearing the balaclavas made conditions unbearable when racing, and it seems there was a gentlemens agreement between the drivers to opt out of wearing them if they so wished.CAMS apparently offered to overlook enforcing the issue.

However since it's a safety issue, when one team protest anotherCams must take action, and it would appear a competing team protested the SBR drivers at Bathurst. As a result, CAMS had to take action.Given it was a safety issue, rather than fining the team CAMS forced Ambrose to serve a drive-through penalty when it was discovered Luff was not wearing his balaclava. Then when it bacame apparant Ambrose was balaclava-less, he was made to return to the pits and fit a balaclava. If the rumours are true, and a competing team did protest the SBR drivers to eliminate them from the competition ,the whole incident is even more sorry than it first appeared. The timing of the incident, at the biggest race of the season, came as a bitter blow to the Ford enthusiasts, as it essentially eliminated Ford's top car. While no compromises should be made in regard to driver safety, the opposing team was not protesting for safety reasons.

I think it's s..t. Any ideas on who it was?:laughing:

This was all said on the commentary of the race... ....it was also pointed out that half the field probably wasnt wearing them.

I think everyone has heard it, I think the team which complained will probably stay very quite about it as they will probably be lynched should they ever admit it... Surly during the big race was not the first moment they noticed it...

I hope which ever team it was, they where involved in the big crash which took out most of the cars (I feel safe in saying that as no one was seriously hurt, but it knocked ppl right out of the race)... That'll teach em for dobbing...

I was at the race and never heard it I still think the team that complained should be named. If the truths known they probaly never had theirs on either until they decided to complain.

Dags is right.

This was all mentioned on the telecast.

The confusion lies in the rules applied to the race. Most of the V8 series is governed by CAMS rules and they had the gentlemans agreement about the balaclavas. Bathurst is governed by FIA rules and they state the balaclava must be worn.

Yeah it's never been a secret how it came about. At the end of the day though I'm sure most of the teams would probably do the same if the boot was on the other foot and it would benefit them.
