It's not bad but I can feel the ring spanner starting to slip. My Q... is there a way out of this like a special toolor something or is it a gas axe job. Guest Guests Posted 25/01/06 10:56 PM Share Posted 25/01/06 10:56 PM Can you get a hacksaw blade in there???If ya can cut into the nut, stop cutting when you are just about to get to the thread, then split the nut open with a hammer and cold chisel, wont need much of a tap just to split it ,then it should undo easilyvik...or a angle grinder if it fits in there, hacksaw more delicate Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/22918-rounded-nut/#findComment-340305 Share on other sites

Many of them crimp tight onto the bolt head or nut and the tighter you push to undo, the tighter they crimp. Probably a tool you use once every five years however, they are worth the $20 investment when you are in the sh1t. Can be messy, but will work.Another tool that is useful is a spanner that works on the middle of the flats rather than the edges - though they can be pricey. They are good for worn bolts, or where you want to prevent wearing them as easily.Sometimes the simple answer will be to use a socket rather than a spanner, they will not flex and round the head any further. If they still slip, use an imperial socket of a similar size, and you may find it has slightly more grip than the metric one. If you are serious on getting it off - hammer on a slightly smaller socket to the worn nut or bolt and you may be able to get it loose this way. One forces the nut against the other two flats that are on the other side forcing into a wedge. They are very effective and don't damage the nut like a vice grip would. Doubt whether you could get a vice grip in there, too confined.
