Here is the wheel in my car, it's the warm charcaol one with dark pearl effect, not woodgrain as such, there is another type with rosewood instead of dark pearl.

hey, how did you change your steering wheel over?

by the way, your car is one of the nicest XR8s I have seen. I love the colour mate

Here ya go

Turn Key off Take positive lead off the bat

Pump the brake pedal a few times. To get rid of any charge in the system.

3 screws under the column surround.

2 Bolts under the wheel [star Key] Undo

The whole unit comes out Air bag cruise ect.

Now draw a diagram of the 3 plugs

Unplug

Undo the star key on the wheel. Undo about 3 turns. Pull gently on the wheel and tap the star key with a hammer and it will release easily. Don t just yank on it.[ Like the dealer told us  ]

Do the reverse for fitting.

Cheers

Tony

Pretty much was Warpor said, we waited about 5mins after unplugging the battery and put the airbag connections back on from memory, but it all turned out allright.

Thanx for the comments on the car, I try to keep it looking it's best.

The wheel look great.

Whats your opinion of the wheel?

How does it feel and compare to the sports wheel?

The GT style steering wheels were about $695 when I optioned mine in 2003 and that seemed expensive but I just had to have one. The price now is totally ridiculous

I like it a lot, it feels the same as the sports wheel as all the same chuncky bits are there. I'm glad I got it, for a good price.

How much are new airbag assemblies - and are they universal for the BA

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

You use your current airbag, which comes out, along with the audio/cruise controls, which lets you take the old wheel off and put the new one on. Then the airbag is replaced. While the battery is disconnected mind you!!!

I just fittted one of the $150 wheels that you can buy off e-bay. They come in a genuine Ford box. Cost about $70 to fit. They are a great improvement over the standard XR wheel which I found a bit slippery. The thicker wheel is much better to use and surprisingly, the fake wood finish on the top and bottom part of the wheel is fine to grip. Not sure about the wood look but getting used to it.

Much better price than the normal part, that's for sure! :spoton:

It seems that the wheels are around that price if optioned when you buy your car but from spare parts later they are the ridiculous price.

I could kill my salesman for not telling me about them when I bought the car.

I picked up one of ebay for $100 + $50 fitting by the ford dealer. the sports steering wheel feels really nice and it makes the car much nicer to drive in my opinion. recommend it to anyone.
