I own both.I like both. The turbo feels lighter but with a more drivetrain vibration and engine resonance. The V8 is a lot smoother and feels like a much more solid and integrated car.Mine are both lightly modded.

Potential to go fast?

XR8 capa blower,edit and exhaust 7-8 grand?

XR6T ic, edit, injectors and valve springs about half that.

XR8 with headers and exhaust kills a turbo for exhaust note, almost worth buying for that alone.XR8 handles very well but Turbo handles better. What  would I buy next time?Probably another V8.They have a whole different; more substantial feel and an XR8 with a blower- who cares about turbos.

Amen

Cool, so for the moment its the XR8 with its exhust note (vitally important for going fast) or the XR6T's agility, speed, and ease of modding. Hmmm, if the only thing the XR8 did better was the note, they wouldnt sell any. Theres more to a V8 than the exhust, yup im a Turbo driver, but seriously, XR8 drivers you've gotta have more reasons for choosing the V8. For me there was no decision to make, im a converted Turbo freak, the flutter, the rush, its something a lightly modded 8 cant compete with.

Please V8 drivers out there, give us the real other reasons you went the 8.

How about the fact that I can just hit the pedal to lose traction without having to stall it up,the rawness of a V8(if you know what I mean) and have you heard and seen a supercharged V8 go :fool:

IMHO I love my GT but I would go the XR6T anyday over the XR8

CYA JEFF

The sound of the V8 is magic. If that is what rocks your boat then no contest.

Speed, handling (well in BA/BF terms) and inexpensive mod-ability? That's the T's domain.

I heard a GT with quad pipes today. It sounded beautiful as I went by him....

When I was looking to buy second hand I test drove an XR8 and thought it felt just as quick as the T even though it proably wasn't.

The boss has a more aggresive nature than the T and gives you more of initial shove when you nail it but as already mentioned it's powerband is fairly narrow.

The T just goes about it's business without fuss relying more on it's torque than outright power. The way it delivers power is so linear that it's deceptivly quick.

Once I decided to go new the price difference became larger and in the end I could't justify the extra 4 grand for a slower car that dosen't handel as well.

Second hand with bugger all price difference I'd go for the best deal I could get T or 8. I'm sure you wont be dissapointed with either.

replicant,

I drove both cars (albeit in BA Mark II Form) - when I was choosing my recent car changeover - back to back and here are my observations:

Legend of a write-up and lots of what I like to see - first hand experience :spoton:

I personally prefer the Turbo as well!

My previous car was an EB XR8 - modified with Headers, Big Bore Exhaust, K&N Filter, and the chip was changed (though I dont know what too).

That car sounded awesome, I think much better sounding than the new v8s.

It didnt go anywhere near as fast as the BA XR8s or Turbos, but.... it felt quick. When I test drove a BA XR8 there wasnt much of a different feel between the EB and the BA, certainly not $40,000 difference.

The BAs all handled better, soaked up bumps better, had all the nice bits like Cruise Control etc. But... were fairly similar to live in to my old EB with 220,000kms on it. Even all the basic layout of swiches etc didnt seem that different.

The look of the BAs is much better, the interior much nicer (mainly the old grey everything in the EB was awful).

I drove the BA XR8 and Turbo back to back, and just preferred the feel of the Turbo.

The Turbo was smooth in its delivery (the V8 felt harsh to me - as does an SS Commodore, and that's from someone who normally likes harsh cars).

I felt that I would like to mod the car one day as well (the Turbo wins hands down).

I love the bonnet on the XR8 - and I think an old XR8 will end up a better car than an old Turbo

but... I chose the Turbo for the fun, something different, nice and smooth, great handling and for the same reason a manual - not the sensible practical choice, but I like it.

Hey replicant, that was an excellent post. Makes my one-liner above look p***weak  :spoton:

Fully agree with your comments and yes, YOU should be writing for the motoring mags! And T's are not just for youngies-I'm on the wrong side of 50 and I've never had so much fun driving a car before  :spoton:  (Of course it helps living in NT where we can stretch a T's legs when we are out of the main city areas)
