Had my car at the dealer last friday (over a week ago) for the 60000 service... no real dramas except they couldnt complete everything I asked.

Driving from the airport on thursday night, just going past the casino, I put my foot down and the engine feels like it is slowing the car down. What the??? I take my foot off and I appear to coast alright, but I put my foot back on the accelerator and it slows it down more!!! Then the dash beeps at me... engine warning light, I put my foot on the clutch and the revs drop to zero... dead as 10 very dead things. I managed to pull over safely, had a look under the bonnet for obvious things... oil/water everywhere... drips... nothing visible. Everything looks normal. Start the car, has been going ever since.

Today, parked at the beach, I turned to leave and notice the car next to me has the rear drivers side door resting on my rear passenger door... the little girl closes the door and I notice a nice bit of creative panel beating on my car... father inspects, assumes I am not looking at him and proceeds to get in his car to leave. While he is getting in his car I confront him and explain to him the reasons for not leaving the car park at this time, and get his details... another pain in the ass for me! Just got a quote today to fix it... $400 at least :pinch: I'm just glad I caught him... when I said look at the damage you have just done he was like... "what do you mean?" :hohum::spoton::fool:

To top off the day, while getting a quote the panel beater goes to open the bonnet to check the paint code, but it doesnt pop. WTF?! Looks like I have a broken bonnet release also :slap::spoton::slap:

Hopefully if bad things come in threes, I got off lightly. But what if the worst is yet to come?? :hohum: I still have to visit the dealer next week for the rest of the friggin warranty work.

/end rant

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

That's why I have the kiddy locks on the rear doors all the time. I certainly don't want a $400 lesson in respecting other peoples car. Lucky you caught him before he did a runner.

Well it was as they were getting in to the car... its simply a case of a thoughtless child not educated to beware of surroundings, and unobservant parents not thinking about the consequences.

Every time I look at that side of my car I almost cry

So did 'said moron father' offer to fork out the cash or accept responsibility? .... and fork over the cash there and then?

I find that if the offending party ignores your letters demanding payment, you simply change stationery.... Instead of writing you letter of demand on paper, write it on a brick and hand delivery it. Bricks should never be posted or placed in the mailbox, they should be thrown for best effect.

Works like a champ.....

He appologised for it and hence admitting liability, he has my details and I I got his, also know where he works, also got his rego and car details.

But I am liking the brick idea... might just skip the letter part.

Having said that... what am I supposed to do/say? I have his mobile number, what do I just say hi, this is the guy who's car you damaged the other day, just letting you know it is gonna cost you $xxx and it is payable to myself, unless you wish to claim it through insurance???

I havent had to chase anyone up before, only accident I was involved in was dealt with other parties insurance company.

Oh, and any recommendations for panel beaters north of the river in Perth?

Thanks

Steve

Words along the line that:

Hi, I am the guy with the dented car, remember me?

Quote is for $xxx, just offering you the opportunity to remedy the damage without the need to go through your insurance. Oh, and BTW, I don't have an excess on my insurance so there is no skin off my nose however, I would hate to see it affect your no claim bonus......
