I'm the current owner of a pretty decent VT II LS1 putting out around 300rwkW in a car that barely tips 1600kg, so it's decently quick. With the car coming upto 6 yo in May I always said I'd be looking for something newer in 2006. With reports tha the VE Late model camira will be another 230kg heavier, if true then that door is slammed shut. I find that the 1600kg of my VT is as heavy as I'd like to go in general, but with the XR6T being around 1700kg I could be persuaded as it has a very good chassis and superior IRS than the VT and being a turbo I know it can make serious power. I owned a pretty good GT-4 before the Late model camira that put out 150kw @ all 4 wheels and that could haul.I'm a manual man through and through and I've never driven an automatic that wasn't a total POS, but I am hearing so many good things about the new 6 speed auto from Ford that I would seriously consider it. However, is there any info on ultimately how much torque these things can cope with and will there be aftermarket upgrade kits available in the near future. If I go the XR6T route I would be looking at something like a Nizpro phase 2 kit at least and I'm hearing stories of these things making way more than 600Nm of torque. Heck in phase 3 guise I've seen 900Nm quoted! My VT is making > 600Nm but the T56 can take a pounding and Mal Woods can strengthen them further if needed. My plan so far based on what I've read would be to aim for around 320rwkW, which I believe a Nizpro phase 2 cobra kit can deliver. I'll do any internal mods needed for 100% reliability. I also know of APS and CAPA, but who are the other gun tuners for XR6T's I should also be contacting?I would be doing massive brake upgrade, 19" wheels (19x8f, 19x10r) - can I get 285 rubber under the rear guards? Any suspension mods deemed necessary - coil overs probablyCan the standard seats be replaced or are we stuck with rubbish due to airbags. I prefer recaro or sparco, but what about Phon seats or GT seats, can they be fitted. Is it possible to fit a GT body kit sans wing and fit XR8 bonnet (modified with custom vents).I aim to build a tough car that won't be too outrageous and certainly wouldn't look any different to a FPV.My other options are a BMW 3 series or Audi A4/6 fitted with turbo or supercharger, R34 GT-R, EVO 9, or STi, VZ LSI turbo. I do prefer lighter cars, but I do mainly long distance touring and I know the fords and commodores excel at this and modifications are much cheaper.Sorry for the long post but any help would be appreciated. You never know I might be a regular on here within 6 months.Cheers

By the time you add brakes and bodykit, you might find the price difference small. With the tyres, I think that any larger than 275's will require the rear guards to be rolled, with the right offset rims.Having 320rwkw is about the max you will want to go with power on stock internals. If you plan to keep the car as long as your VY, you may be best to factor in a rebuild with stronger bottom end for longevity. As for the new ZF auto's, as the gearbox is so new, I do not think anyone can make an accurate guess as to what they will handle, but I would think 800nm would be the limit. As with any thing, I am sure there will be kits that will streagthen the ZF in the very near future.Making the swap tot he Ford will make you one happy camper, as we see very few go the other way as the XR's/FPV's are so much nicer to live with and Mod.Oh...Welcome to the site. I only wish I bit the bullet and went for a Typhoon this time......After I optioned up my Bf, $66,500 is pretty close to the $78,000+ for an optioned-up Phoon...... :titwave: just too impatient......My suggestion would be to top it off with Brembos, Sports Wheel, Leather, Mats, SatNav & 19"s....... Believe me, The typhoon will leave alot of HSV owners in their own and they'll only get better....

Entrust me on this one Mister.adiosBecause I have grown up with very good seats with massive side support. The Falcon seats are good by massed produced standards, but still a long way from what I find acceptable. Also the recaro and sparcos look much better especially in leather and suede.Cheers

I have stage 2 done it has exactly the power output you want, 330rwkws. As for the tranny being able to handle it, well all depends on how you drive it. My one sh*t itself in its first 1000km (abit under) of driving, so a strengthened box should be on the agenda. Show us some pics of your current ride...ps- are you from the south east suburbs? It's the last of the generation. Mazda and Nismo can almost hold a candle to Porsche for their sports car pedigree. As Steven Tyler said "the difference between us and other bands is that there into jerking off and we're into fcking". Suffice it to say the XR6t if freaking great but the GTR is sublime. And no gents, I can't afford one otherwise I would have one!The N Tune especially. Gentleman, ready . . . aim . . . .
