for $35990, I think its reasonably priced... considering the other car my gf wanted was a mazda 3 sp20 (or something) and that was priced at $32000, so for an extra 3g or so, you get a better performing car, with a slick interior, and the recaro seats look pretty good too!! Not sure if my fat hide will fit too comfortably  :tease:  time to hit the gym again I think  :tease:

I agree, the SP23 is a great little car but the XR5 will run rings around it. I'm happy to say that my skinny butt will fit. We are looking to replace the wife's car next year and considerations are:

XR5

Golf GTi

RenaultSport Megane 220

Astra VXR

Mazda 3 MPS

$35990 is a very competetive price so I think an XR6T / XR5T side by side in the garage is a serious option. I think the Golf at $39990 is overpriced even before you start adding options to bring it into line with the others. The Renault goes well, looks different but probably a little too different. VXR looks hot but I prefer to have another two doors. Still early days for the MPS.

dingah, I believe that it is a four door, however, in some of the pics it clearly has 2 doors! so perhaps there will be an option? or perhaps the 2 door is the euro version, as I swear I saw it with 4 doors at the sydney motor show, and in some pics.

Actually, I have my own pics that I took at the motor show!! totally forgot about them. :spoton: Its a four door.

XR isn't just an aussie or falcon thing thing however glenn. There have been XR4's in the UK (Merkurs in the US), XR2 Capris. XR7 Cougars (Flash Mustangs)...It's a ford fast car heritage thing rather than an Australian 1990's+ falcon thing...

Lumpy

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

The XR7's were anything BUT flash Mustangs. A 3761LB sled is quite a far cry from a Mustang. :)

Besides, they were more fun to work on and ALOT more comfortable to drive and ride in. :spoton:

From what I've read the overseas version of the XR5 as we know it is cleaning up in all the hot hatch shootouts.

Pity Ford won't release the real STi, the one they base their awd rally car on..

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Lol, u've been smoking your name sake.

Last time I checked Sti was a done up subaru wrx and the bp ford focus is a purpose built rally car, it is saying why isnt an xr8 like a v8 supercar the only thing they share is the shell looks and part of the dash the rest is all expensive go fast bits.

Like the WRC Accent, no cooking pot accent was like that
