Drive around the wet stuff & don't do a burn out, you're on stock tyres & a burn out makes SFA.

Keep plenty of air in the front tyres & you can let out a little bit in the rear, what you gain with low pressure in the rear you lose through added footprint to push! remember you're on street tyres!

To get a great launch you will need to ride the clutch & keep the car within the torque rang, above 2000 RPM, I'd launch at around 3000-3500 RPM. This part you'll have to suck it & see.

As for flat shifting &/or shuffling through the gears, this one is up to you as you are putting extra stress on the gearbox, so if you want to go fast you have to think about the risks!

Practice makes perfect & always keep an eye on the tacho, don't worry about the XMAS tree as you're racing the clock, not the goose next to you!

The last stock phantom 5 speed manual that I saw try to run down the quarter broke a CV without barely turning a tyre!

im to lazy to read this thread but I did a 14.3 with 2, 12inch subies, work gear, 95 ron fuel. I know my car can go quicker and even quicker with steve driving. XXXR6T can run a standard T very well and has proven himself. Come to WA so we can have some fun and games and beers with you eastern states boys and girls!!!!! Actually there are more of you over there I know we should have a road trip!!!!!!

Shaz

Here is a little benchmark for you to aim for: 14.3 seems to be a very respectable time for a stock manual. There are some freaks that run much quicker, but when you combine good track conditions with ractice, you will be able to get a nice low 14... and with your kw figures there's nothing stopping your car doing a high 13.

All it comes down to is knowing your car very well, feeling for all the different things it does through the revv range, different gears, noises etc etc. Once you get to know where the power comes on, where it does off, how to feel the clutch and tyres slipping, you will start to see your times get much better.

As for advice off the line, I tend to give the car a good revv up to 4500, let it drop to somewhere between 2500 and 3000, then hold it where you can hear it well (around 3200rpm for me). At this point the lights will begin to run down the tree. Your left foot should already be feeling the friction point at this stage, and once the third yellow light comes on you should be letting the left out and planting the right. Feel for the tyres slipping and hold the clutch until the car grips and launches you forward, where you can let it all out.

This bit is tricky... your change into second should be pretty quick, but you have to feel for the power dropping before you do it. At somewhere between 5000 and 5600 you should feel the car slow it's acceleration. This is a great time to get the clutch in (dont worry about flat shifting, not overly important in a stocker) and grab second.

A common mistake for a lot of people is trying to jam it in second as quick as possible. It is a lot of gearbox to move, make it smooth and consistent and try to slow things down a little bit. It will go in much easier if you do this. Once it's in gear, power on and you might get another chirp from the tyres.

The same for third gear, its much easier to feel the car slow it's acceleration when your in second (it happens a bit slower) so when u feel that drop in power go for third. A good launch will get you a chirp in third also.

Above all, have fun... I know it's cheesy but that feeling for 14 seconds of the adrenaline and heart pumping is awesome... its even better when u can get a new pb!

Good luck, hope this helps.

Steve

Here's my thoughts Shaz, I haven't driven a manual T down the 1/4 but I have lots of auto experience.

Preparation:

Have front tyres with more air 45psi have rears @ 22-25psi. The fronts need as litttle resistance as possible and the rears need as big a footprint as you can get.

Get the car cool. Use a water spray on the intake plenum and also the intercooler. make sure there is no dripping water when you go to stage.

Remove any excess weight.

I'd fill up on the best fuel you can get. At worst you want a 98ron fuel. If possible use 100ron Shell Extreme. Another option would be 98ron fuel with an octane booster. Use Nulon Pro-Strength. Aim to be racing with 1/3-1/2 of a tank of fuel.

About to race:

Make sure TC is off.

Make sure air is recirculating and not coming from outside.

Turn off A/C. It will turn off automatically at WOT but I still turn it off.

Leave your window cracked open, this will enable you to hear engine better.

Have radio off.

Racing:

Unless you actually want to beat the car next to you don't worry about trying to get the light as soon as it goes green. If you're after PB's the reaction time doesn't matter.

Start a burnout in the water and whilst the wheels are spinning drive a little way forward, whilst riding the brake. This will heat the tyres a bit and also get any water off them. If you don't have alot of experience doing burnouts practice on a deserted bit of oad near home next time its raining.

Shallow stage. By this I mean as you get to the light beams roll forward very slowly. When the first white light lights up inch forward so the 2nd white light is only just lit. This will give you a slight rolling start before the timing starts.

After the lights go green and your ready to go launch as hard as you can. This is a personal thing and you'll have to judge it for yourself. If you've never had wheelspin off the line you're not launching hard enough. There's a fine line between a good launch and wheelspin and being inexperienced you should have wheelspin occasionally. If you don't you should be launching a little harder.

Being a stocker you will be able to finish in 3rd. I'd change 1-2 @ 5500 and 2-3 @ 5700. Again practise the 1-2 2-3 changes when on the street. You don't need to be going quick to do a quick change.

Hope this helps.

a few ppl have said that you should finish in 3rd..

I definatly hit the limiter before the line and it reflected im my mph..

is the time still going to be quicker because I dont have to change gear??
