The last stock phantom 5 speed manual that I saw try to run down the quarter broke a CV without barely turning a tyre!

Shaz that was me... I did it at Heathcote just before christmas.

There is a thread about it somewhere... not sure where though...

Ah... that's right...

Silly me, it's not here, it's somewhere else... (opposition) anyway, it happened just as I started the burnout on the water, then bang, broken car.

Be careful when you do the burnout... but other than that you should be all good!

Agreed with everything geea said, especially the part about not worrying about reaction times and getting your launch down-pat.

I do disagree though about keeping the window open, even just a little bit. This creates aerodynamic drag. But I am sure he has more experience at the track than I do...

As for technique, my stock 6spd pulled a 13.8@98 with a 2.0 60 foot time. Launching involved 3000RPM and then feathering the throttle off launch.

Probably right about the drag factor. When I race I have the window up. I thought that the ability to hear the engine would over come the time lost through the extra drag of the open window. When Shaz has more experience and doesn't need to hear the engine as much I'd recommend having the window up too. If it's open more than a crack the officials will notice and ask you to put it all the way up.

Nice imput and it's all these little things that will hopefully make it easier for those venturing to the track. :titwave:

Geea.

And also wear a closed face helmet as an open faced will cause drag :stirthepot:
